A temporary 20 % senior researcher position for 3 years is available at the Department of Medical Genetics, Section for Research and Development, Oslo University Hospital with start as soon as possible.

The position will be associated with the research group ''Cancer Genome Variation'', and will be working on the Pink ribbon-funded research project “Towards Precision Approaches in Breast Cancer: Decoding Germline and Somatic Interactions “.

The Department of Medical Genetics at Oslo University Hospital is Norway’s largest medical genetics department with over 200 employees. The department is responsible for diagnostics of rare and inherited diseases and runs a national research infrastructure for high-throughput DNA sequencing at the Norwegian Consortium for Sequencing and Personalized Medicine (www.norseq.org). The research section in the department has 7 research groups (www.ous-research.no/meg/) working in various fields of medical genetics, including breast cancer, the genetics of autoimmune, neurological, cardiovascular and psychiatric disorders, epigenetics causes of disease, as well as groups focusing on bioinformatics.

Kvalifikasjoner:

Required qualifications 

  • A PhD in bioinformatics
  • Strong statistical proficiency and hands-on experience with statistical programming languages like Python, R/Bioconductor, Bash, PHP, SQL, C++ and similar.
  • Broad international research experience.
  • Previous experience with and a solid theoretical understanding of genetics, disease and molecular biology in connection with bioinformatics.
  • Experience with developing of software and different bioinformatics resources for genomics, molecular biology etc.
  • A broad publication record in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
  • Documented experience in quantitative research and analysis of large-scale, complex datasets.
  • Documented administrative and leadership experience.
  • Excellent oral and written English communication skills. Norwegian level B1 is also required.

Experience with the following will be considered an advantage:

  • Broad variety of experience working with and in a variety of international projects.
  • Broad experience from working with and in different institutions.
  • Broad experience with machine learning and/or deep-learning frameworks applied to biological sequence data and/or regulatory genomics.
  • Teaching and training experience in genomics data analysis, open science and reproducibility, bioinformatics, advanced machine learning and similar.
  • Experience with multi-omics data sharing resources like ICGC, TCGA, GDC, dbGAP, SRA, GEO, EGA, ENCODE, Genomics England, cBioPortal, Globus and similar.
  • Experience with web/Database development like MVC, Python/Django, PHP/Laravel, WordPress, R Shiny, jQuery/Ajax, HTML5, REST APIs, MySQL, SQLite and similar.
  • Experience with peer-review for scientific journals.
  • Experience with scientific presentations on an international level.
  • Mentoring and supervising experience of master students and undergraduates.
