Senior Consultant in Medicine (Palliative Medicine) combined with Professor II/Associate Professor II (20% position)

Oslo University Hospital (OUH) is Norway’s largest hospital with over 20 000 employees and a budget of close to 30 billion NOK. It is a local hospital for parts of Oslo's population. It has a regional function for the inhabitants in the South-Eastern Norway Regional Health Authority, and it also has a large number of national functions. The Hospital is responsible for the majority of medical research and education of health personnel in Norway. OUH is the only internationally accredited Comprehensive Cancer Center (CCC) in Norway.

The University of Oslo (UiO) is Norway's largest research and educational institution with 28 000 students and 7 000 employees. Professional breadth and internationally recognized research environments make UiO an important contributor to society. The Faculty of Medicine was established in 1814 and is Norway's oldest medical faculty. The Faculty works for progressive education, research and dissemination for the patients’ and society’s best interests. It is organized into three basic units and has approximately 1 500 employees (about 1 000 work years) and about 2 000 students.

A permanent position as Senior Consultant in Palliative Medicine is available at the Section of Palliative Care, Department of oncology, Cancer Clinic, Oslo University Hospital. The position is affiliated with a part time position as Professor SKO 1013 and Associate professor SKO 1011 (20 % position) in Medicine (Palliative Medicine) at the Institute of Clinical Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Oslo (UiO). It is required that the position holder attends to both positions.

Kvalifikasjoner:

The department has a broad scientific production, publishing 120-150 scientific articles annually in recent years. The cancer research environment at OUS supports translational research in line with the CCC concept and has close collaboration with the Cancer Research Institute. There is also extensive clinical research and patient-oriented research in the department. There is a separate section for clinical cancer research and competence development, which includes a trial unit for early testing of treatments.

The department is entering a period of significant changes. We will start using the new hospital at the Radium Hospital, begin proton therapy, and it has now been decided that the main part of oncology at OUS will be consolidated at the Radium Hospital during the first quarter of 2025. We have increasing engagement in Europe, and the department will participate in major EU initiatives related to the Cancer Mission and Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan.

For the main position:

Qualifications: Applicants must have a relevant medical background within palliative medicine. Research competence and experience will be particularly emphasized. Teaching experience and the ability to contribute to the education and training of healthcare professionals will also be considered an advantage.

Personal qualities: The applicant must have the prerequisites to develop a unit that is leading in its field. This means that the applicant must be motivating and unifying, can think holistically, and show integrity.
