Transport Manager

JOB PURPOSE:

 

DFDS Logistics are looking to recruit a Transport Manager, who can manage and successfully develop our Ireland traffic. The position will be based in Belfast.

 

PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITES:

 

  • Full responsibility for a new Transport P&L in excess of £3 million per annum and meeting profit expectations of the business
  • Management & Development of key performance indicators and provide reports and present to Senior Management Team
  • Management, leadership and development of the team, maintaining the required service levels within budgetary constraints and operational KPI targets
  • Development and maintenance of commercial relationships with existing, potential and new customers.
  • Give direction, monitor performance and day-to-day management of Operational and Administration staff and HGV Drivers within the department
  • Day-to-day responsibility for ensuring the smooth running of operational activities, maximising efficiency and profitability of the Business Unit whilst ensuring customer needs are fully met.
  • Participating in operational activities and demonstrating strong leadership skills through leading by example
  • Ensuring daily completion of:
    • Planning and accurate recording of traffic movements on in house systems
    • Follow up late-running vehicles and deal with queries
    • Ensuring all traffic movements are booked for the next day
    • Customer liaison – dealing with all customer requirements, such as bookings and general queries
  • Oversee the management of drivers, including taking appropriate action for tachograph infringements, ensuring Driver CPC training is up to date etc.
  • Manage, monitor and control of vehicle management and maintenance ensuring optimum fuel efficiencies, regular vehicle servicing, timely MOT’s etc.
  • Control of colleague payroll process and approvals in line with deadlines
  • Legal compliance with legislation and all statutory obligations for fleet management, maintenance and drivers' hours, tachograph compliance.
  • Engagement & interaction with multiple IT systems (both in house and customer systems) which form the basis for our key operational processes
