Toplift Team Leader

The Role… To proactively organise and supervise all working operations and associated staff whilst working within and the Toplift Area support and collaborate with staff working operational vessels, and any / all associated Terminal activities. Responsible & accountable to ensure that all operations are carried out correctly and in accordance with any legislative requirements and Company policy and that any problems are resolved as quickly as possible.

 

Key Responsilities...  

  • Work closely with Operational Management and Supervisors to plan and prioritise work; identify any existing or potential problems and agree how they should be resolved.
  • Obtain information about berthing, working, and sailing times so that work can be scheduled and prioritized.
  • Review and re-allocate resources if the need and priorities change, working within budgetary limits as defined by management.
  • Look for and recommend any new methods of working that could improve efficiency or reduce costs.
  • Make sure that the Terminal is kept clear, clean, and safe for working always.
  • Supervise, support, and advise the Port Operatives to help them to carry out their associated tasks, and resolve any operational problems.
  • Where appropriate, contact customers and agree how problems can be resolved satisfactorily for all parties.
  • Handle and resolve any minor disciplinary and performance-related matters (Cautions).  Refer those that need a more formal approach to Supervisor/Operational Management.
  • Ensure all aspects of ISPS security controls according to Department for Transport (Maritime Security Compliance) legislation are carried out in the correct manner

 

Person Responsibilities... 

  • Always adhere to all relevant policies, operating procedures, and standards.
  • Always work with due care and attention to ensure the personal safety of yourself and others.
  • Attend staff meetings and training sessions as required
  • Carry out any other role or task that is commensurate with the spirit and purpose of this job description
  • Supervise staff to ensure that all operating and service standards are achieved and maintained.
  • Ensure all mechanical handling equipment is in full working order and that daily defect reports are completed.
  • Ensure the correct PPE is worn as required and defined by the Company.
  • Ensure all Risk Assessments are in place and that new assessments are carried out as and when required to meet current legislation defined by the Health and Safety at Work act.
  • Ensure that all Safe Systems of Work are followed and that all operatives have read, understood, and signed all relevant procedures.
  • Actively be involved with all aspects of Safety Management System, which includes working within the parameters of the Safety Advancement Scheme “Safety Starts with Me”
  • Allocate and deploy resources, working within budgetary limits as defined by management.
  • Ensure that all staff are fully trained and competent within their job role.
  • Complete all required Performance Reports spreadsheets and machine tracking forms.
  • Ensure all associated damage, accident, incidents, near misses and environmental forms etc. are completed before the end of the shift and information is thoroughly forwarded to Supervisors and/or Operational Management.
  • Identify operational problems and either resolve them or recommend solutions.
  • Ensure all equipment is returned to the correct area after use. (Tugs, Reach Stackers, Translifters, Forklifts, Ramps, lifting gear etc.)
  • Conduct appraisals in line with company policy with specific responsibility for developing employees.
  • Attend training sessions and meetings as required using them to make a positive contribution to the business.
  • Monitor attendance and performance, report problems accordingly to management.
  • Must have a full Driving License and have a minimum of 3 GCSE (Gradr C or above) or equivalent.
