Strategic Sourcing Lead

An exciting opportunity has arisen for the key role of a Strategic Sourcing Lead based at our Dunfermline or Newcastle site. The Strategic Sourcing Lead reports to the Procurement Manager.
The Strategic Sourcing Lead will support the Procurement Team to purchase goods, materials, and services to ensure that the operational needs of the business are met, taking into account quality cost and delivery to ensure continuity of supply in support of the various projects and programmes. The successful candidate will demonstrate a keen, 'can-do' attitude and a high degree of flexibility.
The Strategic Sourcing Lead will have responsibility primarily for machining and fabrications; those commodities and services that form a large part of the Company's annual spend. Working closely with the Global Category Manager, the Strategic Sourcing Lead will develop and implement sourcing and cost-reduction strategies for designated Category on the division/site level. This role is focused on driving improvements in Category KPI's, with engagement and support of key stakeholders that enhance competitive performance to Kongsberg Maritime. This role will operate across the full product / service life cycle, ensuring supplier strategic commercial issues are resolved effectively and efficiently.
Key accountabilities
- Develop and manage supplier relationships in the interests of Kongsberg Maritime Ltd, developing long term Supplier Agreements.
- Communicate with Suppliers regularly to address any concerns and adopt an environment that facilitates continual improvement in working relationships.
- Develop and implement sourcing and cost-reduction strategies for designated Category on the division/site level
- Develop and improve supplier capability and identify opportunities to secure the Business benefits.
- Managing contracts for the manufacturing ok KM parts/equipment where necessary visiting international supplier sites, attend production readiness reviews, answer queries, weekly production meetings.
- Where designated by GCM(s) responsible for identifying and mitigating category risks including single source decisions and financial health monitoring
- Support other team members who are coordinating strategies on associated commodities.
- Ensure that key departmental objectives i.e., cost reduction, cost control and on-time delivery are met.
- Assist in the preparation and presentation of monthly procurement reports to the Business Management Team.
- Assist in the procurement of RAS/FAS, Naval and Commercial products including spares and aftermarket
- Recommend sourcing decisions in accordance with Kongsberg Management System processes
- Maintain compliance with all associated Kongsberg CM Management System processes ensuring Maintain records in line with Company and departmental procedures to ensure clear audit trails are in place and statutory requirements are complied with.
- Develop and implement robust sourcing strategies ensuring that the supply base has the capability and capacity to meet all current and future Business requirements
- Ensure that the VAT Obligations are understood and the risk of financial costs to Kongsberg are minimized
- Maintaining compliance with Export Controlled Technology / Hardware processes and procedures.
- Within capabilities, other suitable tasks as deemed appropriate by the business
Qualifications and experience
- Ability to work with our ERP system and other IT software packages such as Word, Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint.
- BA degree or equivalent or significant industry experience
- Holds MCIPS
- Experience of working in a purchasing team, preferably within a manufacturing environment including 5 years’ Experience in fabrication/machining of large components
- Awareness of UK Import and Export Processes
- Significant knowledge of purchasing, negotiation, commercial process, and cost breakdowns
- Understands Category / Product specifics including key cost drivers and global / regional supply base
- Ability to influence at all levels
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
- Self-motivated, prepared to use their own initiative and able to work independently or as part of a team
- Planning and organizing skills to manage short, medium, and long-term activities and deliverables
- Ability to build relationships that bring together a broad range of talents, experience and perspectives thus promoting the "One Team" approach
- Acts in a professional courteous manner to our colleagues and Customers at all times
