POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Director Engineering, the Software QA Co-op will play an important role in ensuring the quality and reliability of our software and hardware products. The successful candidate will work closely with the development team to identify and resolve issues, contributing to the overall success of our projects. Our product portfolio includes application software that controls, monitors, and displays data from our catalog of sonar devices. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in software testing in a dynamic and supportive environment.

 

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate with the development team to understand project requirements and specifications.
  • Design, develop, and execute test plans and test cases for various software and hardware applications.
  • Perform manual and automated testing to identify and document software defects.
  • Work with developers to reproduce, diagnose, and resolve issues.
  • Participate in code reviews and provide feedback on testability and quality.
  • Assist in the development, maintenance and improvement of automated testing frameworks.
  • Document test results and create detailed reports on software quality.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the Engineering team.
  • Ensure the software functionality, performance, stability, reliability meets business and user requirements.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Currently enrolled in 3rd or 4th year in a Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or related program.
  • Basic understanding of software development and testing methodologies.
  • Familiarity with programming languages such as C++, Java, Python, or C#.
  • Experience with testing tools and frameworks (e.g., Selenium, JUnit) is a plus.
  • Experience with testing electronics and hardware systems is an asset.
  • Combination of:
    • Software system testing, development and design
    • Operating systems (Windows, Linux, FreeRTOS), Realtime systems
    • GUI design and development
    • Agile processes and methodologies
    • System integration and test
    • Git or similar repositories
    • TFS or similar
  • Experience working in a cross-functional team including hardware and software engineers would be an asset.
  • High level of energy, enthusiasm, and optimism, as well as strong motivation to deliver great products and passion for excellence
  • Ability to focus and drive tasks/projects to completion.
  • Experience working with hybrid, local, and remote software development teams would be an asset.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Working knowledge of electronic assemblies
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proven interpersonal and organizational skills.

 

Work Location: Port Coquitlam, BC Canada

(A hybrid work schedule may be an option after introductory period.)
