Research, Innovation and Clinical Trials are major tasks and responsibilities of Oslo University Hospital. Institute of Surgical Research is a department for basic and experimental research with translational focus. The institute is organized under Division for Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Diseases. Currently, 6 research groups with a total of 40-50 people work at the institute. The research areas of the research groups spans from molecular and cellular biology, experimental studies of both small and large laboratory animals, to clinically oriented research and analysis of samples from patients. The subject areas range form cardiovascular research, diabetes, tissue engineering to cancer research.

Kvalifikasjoner:

• Applicants to be evaluated for the position must hold an MD or Master degree in biochemistry/cell biology, biotechnology, pharmacy, or other relevant field.
• Applicants to be evaluated for the position must also have a PhD degree in a relevant area. Candidates to be evaluated for the position are also required to document 1-2 periods of postdoctoral training (3-6 years) with solid research merits (1st authorships of scientific publications in well established scientific journals).
• Broad expertise in molecular and cell biology, and immunological methods are required. Strong expertise in bioinformatics would also be an advantage as well as experience with laboratory animal research,  genetically engineered animals and relevant disease models.
• Applicants with research experience and merits  in a field complementary to current research activities at the institute, e.g. disease mechanisms of atherosclerosis or heart failure, or disease mechanisms of progressive fibrosis and fibrosis as a cause of organ failure (pulmonary fibrosis, chronic heart disease, chronic kidney disease, liver fibrosis) may be preferred. Research experience in differentiation of stem cells and tissue engineering are also fields that the institute explicitly intend to strenghten.
• The application must include a motivation letter for the position, as well as curriculum vitae and list of all scientific publications (unpublihed manuscripts to be included in the assessments must be attached with the application). Other merits also require documentation (e.g. innovation and drug development).
• The applicant is also required to attach a written research plan (project plan) for the proposed research activities in the position.
• Documentation of successful grant awards would also strenghten the candidacy for the position.
• The applicant should provide names and contact information for at least three references (former supervisors or leaders).
