We are looking for a new senior consultant in Geriatric medicine at Østfold Hospital!

We believe that you have to try out new ways of working in order to bring about change. We are a growing department and are constantly expanding our horizons. In the long term, we want a senior doctor in the orthopedic department to establish an orthogeriatric offer.
 
The Department of Medicine is responsible for diagnostics and treatment of patients within the specialist areas of heart, lung, infection, kidney, digestive diseases, endocrinology and geriatrics. An own emergency unit and a research unit within hematology has been established. In total, the department of medicine has 151 beds, as well as intermediate and intensive care beds associated with the department.
 
We have a good collaboration with other clinical professional environments, and we raise awareness of the fact that geriatric patients can be found in all specialist areas. The acute geriatric ward has 18 beds. We are proud of a very good working environment where laughter is an important part of everyday life. It is not an exaggeration to claim that our department is under pressure, and that everyday life is hectic. This is precisely why the working environment is so important. We have a close collaboration with the nursing group, and we are planning an educational course in emergency geriatrics for our nurses.
 
The geriatric department has a good learning and working environment characterized by curiosity, openness and respect between the subject groups. We are concerned with good supervision for our Junior Doctors and continuous improvement work. We have a committed research department that can help if research is desired. Clinicians that wishes a part-time position towards the research department is also desirable.
 
The geriatric outpatient clinic has full-time nurses, and 4 nurses who combine clinic work and ward work. To date, it mainly consists of cognitive assessments. We include approximately 85 % of our patients in the Norkog register.
 
The work will consist of different types of bedside work, outpatient work and supervision. As of today, we have 6-split weekend shifts. We are on call until 8 p.m., approximately once every 2 weeks. All senior doctors rotate on the different tasks 1-2 weeks at a time. We are currently 4 geriatric specialists, in addition to the head of department who`s also an geriatric specialist.
 
Interviews will be conducted as soon as possible.
 
Junior Doctors at the end of their specialization are also encouraged to apply.
 

Kvalifikasjoner:

  • Specialist approval in general internal medicine and geriatrics
  • Separately relevant experience/interest in the subject area can offset the requirement for formal specialist approval
  • Norwegian authorization
  • Norwegian, English or another Scandinavian language must be well spoken and written
  • Must have the motivation and ability to learn the Norwegian language within a short period of time
  • Good communication skills, both written and oral, in either Norwegian, English or another Scandinavian country
  • Commitment and personal suitability will be emphasized
