It serves as a local hospital for a part of the population in Oslo, has a regional function for 3.1 million persons living in the area covered by the South-Eastern Norway Regional Health Authority. The Hospital serves several national functions and is responsible for a large proportion of medical research and health personnel education in Norway.
The University of Oslo (UiO) is Norway's largest research and educational institution with 28 000 students and 7 500 employees. Professional width and research environments at top international level make UiO an important contributor to society. The Faculty of Medicine works for progressive education, research, and dissemination to the best interests of patients and society. It is organized into three institutes, one of which is the Institute of Clinical Medicine, and has 1 500 employees and about 2 000 students.
A permanent position as Senior Consultant (100 % position) is available at the Unit of Rheumatology. This unit is part of the Department of Rheumatology, Dermatology and Infectious Diseases within the Division of Specialized Medicine and Surgery, Oslo University Hospital.
The position is affiliated with a part time position (20 %) as Professor II (SKO 1013) or Associate Professor II (SKO 1011) in Medicine (Rheumatology) at the Institute of Clinical Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Oslo (UiO).
It is required that the position holder attends to both positions.
Regarding the full-time senior consultant position at OUH:
The Unit of Rheumatology has local and regional responsibilities for children and adolescents afflicted by a rheumatic disease. In adults, the Unit has local and regional functions for patients with systemic connective diseases and systemic vasculitis. The Unit hosts two national functions, a national unit for stem cell therapy in systemic sclerosis and a national network for childhood and adolescent rheumatology.
The Unit currently has 13 permanent senior consultant positions and six positions for residents in training. The Unit is set up with a 24/7 on call service where all the Consultants participate.
The senior consultants at the Unit are organized in two teams, the adult team, and the juvenile team. The Adult consultant team is responsible for a ward with 13 beds (shared with the Unit of clinical immunology and infectious diseases), a day ward and an outpatient clinic for the adult patients. The Juvenile consultant team is responsible for a four-bed ward, a day care unit and an out-patient clinic for the children and adolescents. The main position as senior consultant is linked to the adult rheumatology team.
The Unit aims for close integration of clinical activities and research across all patient age groups and has an expressed ambition of contributing clinically oriented research at international level. Central to fulfill this ambition is the permanent research staff, which currently includes two part-time Professor positions from UiO and a part-time research position from OUH. The Unit hosts research registries and biobanks for adult and juvenile rheumatology and is set up with three active research groups with a total of >30 externally funded researchers.
