Helse Sør-øst RHF

Researcher in myeloid cancer

Offentlig forvaltning

At the Stem Cells, Ageing and Cancer team, Centre of Excellence CRESCO and Section for Microbiology, Oslo University Hospital, lead by Lorena Arranz, we have a full-time temporary position for three years as a researcher.

The research vision of the Arranz team is the identification of novel and efficient therapeutic targets of clinical interest with the potential to improve survival rates and quality of life in patients. We conduct research and innovation in myeloid blood cancers with a particular focus on targeting stem cells and their niches as potential therapeutic strategies. We are seeking a highly motivated scientist with extensive experience in hematology research and immediate availability, to contribute to a project aiming at providing insights on how the sympathetic nervous system is involved in malignant hematopoiesis and could be targeted therapeutically. The position is part of the newly funded project “NEUROTARGET” supported by Helse-Sør-Øst, which aims at using the neural components of the stem cell niche as therapy in a subset of patients with myeloid cancers. The successful candidate will work at the interface of translational and clinical research, using state-of the art in vivo models and patient materials.

“NEUROTARGET” aims to dissect how newly identified genetic variants involved in the sympathetic nervous system function are enriched in patients with myeloid cancers, their impact on hematopoiesis, and their potential as targets for therapeutic strategies. A central objective is the development of relevant mouse models, to characterize the pathogenic potential of the variants in vivo and the value of their targeting as therapy in preclinical models. Another important objective involves research with human stem cells and relevant stem cell niche components ex vivo and in vivo. The aim of NEUROTARGET is to provide the scope for a larger project with expected benefit for future care of patients with myeloid cancers.

Oslo University Hospital is a workplace with great diversity. We believe this is crucial to solving our tasks in the best possible way. We are an international team and we want this diversity to be reflected among the applicants for this position. We encourage all qualified candidates to apply.
