Elkem is a part of the solution to combat climate change, as silicon is vital for the transition towards a sustainable and climate-neutral society. However, the present production technology results in CO2 emissions to the atmosphere, and development a carbon-neutral technology is required.

Elkem is developing a new concept for silicon production where all direct CO2 emissions will be eliminated. The concept is based on carbon looping, where carbon oxides in the process off gases are captured, converted to solid carbon, and reused in the process. When successful, this will become a game changer for the global silicon industry.

We are now strengthening the R&D team with a new researcher with key expertise in:

- Silicon production processes and thermodynamics

In Elkem you will have the opportunity to contribute to the green transition and use your competence to develop new production concepts from lab-scale towards industrial implementation.

Your main working tasks will be within:

• Act as technology domain specialist in Silicon process fundamentals
• Process synthesis and design of new silicon production processes, including thermodynamic and kinetic evaluation, from laboratory testing to industrial operation
• Planning, execution, evaluation, and reporting of laboratory and pilot test experiments
• Testing and implementation of new technology in existing and new industrial processes
• Cooperation with external research partners

You have these qualifications:

• MSc/PhD in chemistry, physics, chemical engineering, material science, or similar disciplines
• Deep competence in silicon process. Experienced in thermodynamics and process modelling
• Good communication skills in English and a Scandinavian language, preferably Norwegian
