POSITION SUMMARY:

Kongsberg Discovery is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Program Manager to lead the planning, execution, and delivery of complex maritime autonomy, defense, and underwater technology programs. The Program Manager will serve as the primary interface between customers, internal stakeholders, and external partners to ensure successful program execution from contract award through delivery and sustainment.

This position requires a strategic leader capable of managing multiple concurrent programs while balancing technical, financial, schedule, and customer requirements. The successful candidate will work closely with engineering, production, operations, logistics, contracts, and business development teams to deliver innovative solutions that support U.S. Navy, Department of Defense, and commercial maritime customers.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Kongsberg Discovery is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Program Manager to lead the planning, execution, and delivery of complex maritime autonomy, defense, and underwater technology programs. The Program Manager will serve as the primary interface between customers, internal stakeholders, and external partners to ensure successful program execution from contract award through delivery and sustainment.

The successful candidate will work closely with engineering, production, operations, logistics, contracts, and business development teams to deliver innovative solutions that support U.S. Navy, Department of Defense, and commercial maritime customers.
  • Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Lead assigned programs through all phases of execution including planning, development, manufacturing, testing, delivery, training, and sustainment.
  • Serve as the primary customer point of contact for program performance, schedule, risks, and deliverables.
  • Develop and maintain master schedules, program budgets, resource plans, and execution strategies.
  • Manage program financial performance including revenue forecasting, cost tracking, variance analysis, and profitability objectives.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams consisting of engineering, production, quality, supply chain, operations, contracts, and finance personnel.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate program risks while maintaining a comprehensive risk management process.
  • Ensure compliance with contractual requirements, customer expectations, company policies, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Lead program reviews, customer meetings, executive briefings, and milestone assessments.
  • Support proposal development, capture activities, and transition of new business opportunities into execution.
  • Manage subcontractors, vendors, and strategic partners supporting program objectives.
  • Coordinate logistics, training, field service support, and operational deployment activities as required.
  • Establish and maintain key program performance metrics and reporting mechanisms.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance program execution, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Business Administration, Program Management, Maritime Studies, or related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of progressively responsible program or project management experience.
  • Experience managing U.S. Government, Department of Defense, Navy, or maritime technology programs.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multi-disciplinary teams and complex technical programs.
  • Strong understanding of contract management, budgeting, scheduling, and risk management principles.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and customer engagement skills.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and program management tools.

PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Master’s degree in engineering, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • Experience with autonomous systems, unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs), autonomous surface vehicles (ASVs), sensors, maritime robotics, or defense systems.
  • Familiarity with Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR), DFARS, and U.S. Government contracting practices.
  • Military service or direct experience supporting U.S. Navy programs.
  • Experience working in an international matrix organization.

  • Working Conditions
  • Primarily home-based with periodic travel to customer locations, manufacturing facilities, test events, and operational sites.
  • Domestic and international travel up to 25%.
  • Occasional support of field operations, demonstrations, sea trials, and customer exercises.

Pay Range: $135,000 - $160,000 annually, DOE

Work Location: Remote in the Washington, D.C. area
