A three year postdoctoral position (wet-lab) is available at Dept. Medical Genetics, section for Research and Development, Oslo University Hospital.

Your research will be part of a translational research project titled “Functional genomics platform for discovery of regulatory genetic variation and mechanisms in immune disorders”.  You will be employed by Oslo University Hospital, while the project and your physical working location will be at the Centre for Molecular Medicine Norway (NCMM), the Nordic EMBL Partnership for Molecular Medicine in the Oslo Science Park. NCMM, hosted by the University of Oslo, is an international biomedical research centre, with the overall objective of translating basic medical research into clinical practice.

The Human Immune Disease group led by Janna Saarela (https://www.med.uio.no/ncmm/english/groups/saarela-group/index.html) focuses on improving the understanding of biological pathways and pathogenic mechanisms in rare and common immune disorders by utilizing high-throughput genomics technologies (WGS/WES/transcriptomics) and cell based immune assays. By identifying novel genetic causes for immune disorders and characterizing their molecular consequences, we are producing novel knowledge of the immune functions in health and disease to improve diagnosis and treatment of patients presenting with immune deficiency and immune dysregulation.

The Department of Medical Genetics at Oslo University Hospital is Norway’s largest medical genetics department with over 200 employees. The department is responsible for diagnostics of rare and inherited diseases, and runs a national research infrastructure for high-throughput DNA sequencing at the Norwegian Consortium for Sequencing and Personalized Medicine (www.norseq.org). The research section in the department has 7 research groups (www.ous-research.no/meg/) working in various fields of medical genetics, including genetics, epigenetics, bioinformatics and functional genetics of breast cancer, autoimmune diseases, neurological, cardiovascular and psychiatric disorders. The Saarela group is collaborating with the research section at the department.

Kvalifikasjoner:

We are looking for enthusiastic and hard-working person with a background in cell biology, immunology and/or genetics.
You are a rigorous experimentalist but also have an interest in the clinical conditions we work with.

• Applicants must hold a PhD degree or equivalent in biomedicine, cell or molecular biology, immunology or human genetics.
• Fluent oral and written communication skills in English are mandatory.
  

These qualifications will count in the assessment:

• Previous work experience in multidisciplinary research environments.
• Hands-on experience in NGS technology and library preparation, preferable in RNA sequencing
• Hands-on experience in genome editing
• Hands-on experience in human cell culture (primary cells, iPS or stem cells and cell lines)
• Experience in immune cell functional assays
• Experience in flow cytometry and data analysis.
• Experience in designing and performing molecular genetics laboratory experiments, such as DNA/RNA analyses, cloning, transformation, plasmid extraction, protein expression and isolation
• Experience in protein work (western blotting, binding assays)
• Experience in immunofluorescence microscopy and basic fluorescence image analysis
• Personal fit and willingness to supervise PhD students and staff.
