Microsoft SQL DBA Lead

 

Are you an experienced DBA in Microsoft SQL and knowledge in latest DB technologies? 
Are you ready to be a key player in DFDS’s IT-Infrastructure and the frontrunner on our cloud journey?
Then we have just the right position for you!

In DFDS Technology & Innovation Division, we are looking for an experienced Microsoft SQL DBA. Working as part of the Data Center Infrastructure Team, this role will have responsibility for ensuring infrastructure and processing service responsibilities are met for supported systems and applications.
You will work closely together with colleagues in the infrastructure departments, other IT departments & third-party providers, so you need to be a good team player.

Your role includes the following responsibilities;

  • Providing support and development services to a mixed estate of SQL Server where most are divided between 2008, 2012 and 2016
  • Designing and develop the future of Microsoft SQL in DFDS, this especially implies DFDS’s continue journey to use SQL Azure
  • Diagnose and resolve database errors or performance issues for internal stakeholders and colleagues such as our developers, BI and AI teams
  • Ensure and further implement DFDS security model for our SQL DB’s
  • Ensuring that maintenance for all SQL servers are robust and appropriate
  • Build and implement monitoring of database/server health with our SCOM team in order to provide early warning of performance issues
  • Participate in projects involving your area of responsibility. The projects can be everything from upgrading existing systems to implementing new global solutions that support DFDS’s different business areas.
  • Advise Developers on performance tuning of code and aid Developers and Technical Architects in database logical design
  • Creation, update and maintenance of the technical knowledgebase and documentation
  • Supporting your colleagues and working to achieve common team goal

Expected background and skills

We are looking for a candidate with a solid technical background combined with a relevant education within IT. We imagine that you have several years of practical experience with a medium to large enterprise infrastructure. Furthermore, you have a proven track record within Microsoft SQL core technologies but also a knowledge of new technologies in relation to cloud services and other DB products and technologies are required for the position, as DFDS are moving with the trends and technology towards a hybrid multi-cloud setup.

The successful candidate will have extensive experience administering Microsoft SQL Server databases, including features such as Server Configuration, Availability Groups, Partitioning, Backup/Restore, Replication, Encryption, Extended Events, Index design and maintenance, security, auditing and performance tuning. Experience of automating Database Administration functions using PowerShell is also a must for this position.

A skillset in SAN, vSphere and/or Hyper-V is also desirable, in order for you to control the important parts of the SQL stack. You are skilled in Windows Server and Active Directory as well, enabling you to influence and cooperate with your colleagues to get the best out of DFDS environment.

As a person, you are very 'hands-on' focusing on both documenting changes and executing the agreed deliveries. You create and maintain relationships and are a distinct team player. You are motivated by introducing new technologies and have the ability and desire to translate these into business value as you increase your experience. You can bridge the gap between people and systems with good communication and interpersonal skills and are are fluent in oral and written English and preferably in a Scandinavian language.

Due to the nature of the business requirements and their high availability support requirements, planned activities and upgrades will sometimes need to be completed outside of business hours. Furthermore, DFDS has many different locations and therefore the position requires that you are able to travel around 5-15 days a year.
