Höegh Evi is seeking a Legal Trainee to support our Legal function with high-quality legal and compliance work across the company. The role will provide hand-on experience across commercial, corporate and regulatory matters in an international environment, and will be based in Oslo reporting to Senior Legal Counsel.

About the Role

Höegh Evi is seeking a highly motivated law student in their third to fifth year of Master of Laws (Norwegian Master i rettsvitenskap) to join the legal team in Oslo as a legal trainee. The role is intended for a student who wishes to gain meaningful, practical experience within an international energy and infrastructure company, working closely with experienced in house counsel on a wide range of legal matters in a commercial setting.

As a legal trainee, you will support the legal department across the core areas of Höegh Evi’s legal work. This includes assisting with the drafting, reviewing and structuring of commercial agreements, non disclosure agreements and supply contracts for key equipment, as well as providing general legal support to ongoing projects and business initiatives.

The work will primarily involve drafting and negotiating commercial contracts, advising on maritime- and energy-related regulatory matters, and conducting compliance assessments, with a particular focus on matters governed by English and Norwegian law, including energy and infrastructure regulation and other maritime-related issues. The role offers exposure to both transactional and day to day operational
legal work, with a particular emphasis on commercial and contract law in an international context. You will gain insight into how legal advice is delivered in practice and how legal considerations are integrated into business decision making.

Qualifications:

You are in your 3rd year or later of a Norwegian Master’s in Law (Master i rettsvitenskap).

  • Fluency and proficiency in both written and spoken English and Norwegian.

  • Confident user of Microsoft 365, including advanced Word formatting, PowerPoint and Excel (basic analysis), and comfortable collaborating in Teams and SharePoint.

  • Comfortable in document-heavy workflows, including version control, structured filing, redlining/Track Changes and quality checks.

  • Strong drafting and proofreading skills, with high attention to detail and the ability to present information clearly.

  • Able to prioritise effectively, manage several tasks in parallel and deliver to deadlines.

Höegh Evi values efficient and forward looking legal processes, and we therefore welcome candidates who, in addition to their legal studies, have a genuine interest in technology. Familiarity or curiosity regarding programming, IT systems, artificial intelligence and the use of digital tools in legal work will be considered an advantage.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the preparation, review and updating of legal documents and templates (e.g., NDAs, supplier/customer agreements, amendments and letters).

  • Assist with contract and document processes by tracking actions, coordinating inputs, maintaining version control, and supporting accurate filing and quality checks.

  • Carry out legal research on commercial, corporate and regulatory topics and summarise key findings for the team and relevant stakeholders.

  • Contribute to corporate governance work by preparing materials for internal approvals and helping maintain well-structured records.

  • Work closely with internal stakeholders and, where relevant, external counsel to gather information, schedule reviews and support timely delivery of legal outputs.

  • Help strengthen Legal ways of working over time, including contributing to templates and checklists and supporting efficient use of digital tools.

Personal Qualities:

  • Drive and proactivity; takes ownership, follows tasks through and communicates progress.

  • Curious and eager to learn, including exploring how technology and legal-tech tools can improve legal work.

  • Strong critical thinking and sound judgement; able to identify issues, ask good questions and propose solutions.

  • High attention to detail and a strong commitment to quality and accuracy in written work.

  • Able to handle ambiguity and manage multiple priorities in a commercial environment, delivering to deadlines.

  • High integrity and discretion; handles confidential information responsibly and exercises professional judgement.

  • Fluent in English and Norwegian.

  • Collaborative and clear in communication, with the ability to work effectively across functions and cultures.
