Job Summary:
Implement the Waste Management Plan for Tawke PSC facilities to ensure compliance with Business Unit requirements and MNR expectations. Works closely with line and functional personnel to ensure that environmental controls are implemented from Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA’s) and Environmental Monitoring Plan.
Key Responsibility:
- Environmental controls - Works with HSE and Operations team to ensure that commitments made in Environmental Impact Assessments and Environmental Monitoring Program are implemented in Tawke, Fishkhabour and Peshkabir facilities.
- Waste Management – Works closely with field’s operations team to help develop and implement the Waste Management Plan (for domestic, non-hazardous and hazardous wastes) including waste collection, segregation, temporary storage, transportation and disposal according to DNO’s waste management Plan and national legislation. Taking responsibility for the ‘on the ground’ management of DNO’s local waste management facilities. Develop and deliver training programs. Work with suppliers to look at ways of reducing the waste generated at site. Liaison with CSR to investigate disposal/ recycling of waste options with local business community and taking responsibility for the implementation ‘on the ground’.
- Risk understanding and controls – works closely with the field supervisors to continually understand risks associated with waste management in field and agrees techniques to control emerging risks and issues with environmental and waste management.
- Inspections – Conducts inspection, according to agreed check sheets, of environmental controls in the field including waste and water management.
- Reporting and investigation of environmental incidents – ensures accurate field-based reporting of environmental incidents and lead investigations to arrive at root causes and learnings.
- Contractor engagement – engages with contractors to ensure environmental controls are adhered to and assist contractors to rectify problems on site or with assistance from other line of functional persons when needed.
- Environmental Reporting – Undertake the environmental reporting identified by the Business Unit to align with the MNR requirements and address the requirements of the EIA Report and Monitoring Program.
- Safety champion – all employees and contractors in DNO are safety champions and are expected to walk sites and to assist in reporting and rectifying safety risks and recognizing positive behaviors. The role holder will be expected to be an active participant in the BU SAFE card program.
- Compliance and ethics – Upholds all DNO’s values set out in the Code of Conduct and acts with integrity in all activities.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
- An Bachelor’s degree or diploma is required in a science or engineering subject.
- Demonstrable IT skills.
- IEMA/ISO 14001 EMS knowledge
- Minimum of 3 years relevant experience in environment and waste management, including practical implementation of waste systems. Other practical relevant experience will also be considered.
- Preferred experience in IOCs in Kurdistan
Key Technical Competencies Required:
- Good working knowledge of Kurdistan and Iraqi environmental and waste legislation
- Well-developed communication skills, written and oral with a high level of fluency in English.
- Well-developed IT skills, including Word, Excel, database software use.
- Implementation of waste plans following the requirements of internationally accepted standards i.e. IPECA, IOGP, IFC.
- At least an understanding of Environmental Impact Assessment processes and compliance activities.
- An understanding of ecosystem services
- An understanding of Oil Spill Reponses and Management techniques
- Understands international sampling and reporting protocols
- Environmental reporting in line with IOGP
