A new opportunity has arisen as Development Engineer in our Product Management - Propeller Systems team at Kongsberg Maritime in Kristinehamn. You will be part of a competent team of experts working with development of our propeller systems and maintaining market leading world class propulsion solutions. We are looking for an experienced engineer in the mechanical field with a strong technical and engineering background who can work goal-focused, independently making decisions and take responsibility for your actions. With us, you will have the opportunity to develop in your own field of expertise.
Our products consist of propellers and shaft lines for all types of vessels, including polar research, naval and cruise ships. Our propellers vary in sizes from 1,5 – 10 m in diameter and we have delivered our high-performance propellers for over 80 years, starting with the well-renowned KAMEWA-propeller.
Your role
As Development Engineer, you get the chance to further develop and deliver the best propellers in the world. You will be included in all stages of the product development of our complex propulsion systems, from first drawings to the final test run. Your position is characterized by working cross-functionally with colleagues from other departments in our global organization, as well as collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
In this position, you act as a specialist when it comes to complex mechanical issues, but also regarding hydraulic and numerical inquiries. Among other tasks, you will get to work with conceptual studies, detailed constructions, and investigations. Travel is included as part of your position, sometimes with short notice and to destinations almost anywhere in the world – on dry land, in dry dock or onboard a sailing vessel. You should therefore be comfortable with having travel as part of your work.
What we can offer
We offer an inspiring and safe work environment and the possibility to work with sustainable and exciting solutions for the future. A position with a wide range of challenging work tasks, opportunities to make a real difference and develop on a technical and personal level. You will have the opportunity to work with unique products at a world leading supplier of maritime solutions. You will work in an international environment and in multidisciplinary team collaboration. We can offer flexible working hours and the option to work partly remote based on your work tasks.
Qualifications and experience
Master’s degree in mechanical engineering and a high technical interest. Previous work experience characterized by some years of product development of complex mechanical systems is preferred.
Due to the nature of our international customer and supplier base, a high level of English, both written and oral is required. Communication skills in other languages are advantageous.
You are able to
We appreciate your ability to take initiative and make things happen in a systematic way. An innovative mindset is essential, as is the ability to analyze complex issues and come up with new ideas and rational solutions and judgements. Collaboration is key to our success, so you should work well with others, communicate effectively, share knowledge, and support your colleagues in achieving team goals.
Kongsberg works with customers from both the commercial and naval market segments.
As our Engineers work with classified materials, security clearance and export control may be required for this position and questions related to citizenship will be part of the selection process.
Our ambition is to fill the position as soon as possible; selection and interviews may therefore begin during the application period.
