Deck Foreman – Platform Drilling 

A vacancy has arisen for the position of a Deck Foreman working a 3/3 rotation on the TAQA contract in the UK sector.

 

Job Summary:

 

The offshore unit's designated Foreman for all deck work utilised in the lifting and movement of all operations equipment, systems, supplies, containers, tubulars and other materials utilised in the daily functioning of the offshore unit as directed. During non-crane operational modes, the Roustabout Foreman’s work activity includes supervising Roustabouts and participating in various maintenance work about the entire offshore unit, to include paint preparation, painting, material/equipment movement, repair and maintenance of systems and equipment within various departments as assigned/directed on a project basis. During relocation of the drilling unit, the Roustabout Foreman assists as directed in positioning the drilling unit on and off location.

 

The essential task for varies due to the rig type and phase of operation. Therefore, this description is broken down by rig type and phase of operation.  Regardless of rig type and phase of operation, all role holders will demonstrate safe working practices in line with Company policies, procedures, training and legal requirements. Personnel will ensure their own safety at all times and will assist in ensuring the safety of others by participating fully in the Company Safety Management System.

 

Offshore Responsibilities:      

 

  • Inspect and make available certified, safe and proper rigging and lifting equipment.
  • Direct offload/backload of equipment and tubulars to and from supply vessel.
  • Assist with measuring, labelling, numbering and recording joints of casing and other tubulars.
  • Make available to the rig floor all tools and equipment as required by operations.
  • Maintain a constant supply of casing, tubular and equipment to the rig floor during various operations.  Clear the rig floor of tools and equipment post operations.
  • Ensure tubular and equipment is protected and stored as per client requirements.
  • Ensure appropriate mud additives are allocated to the mud processing area in a timely manner.
  • Perform housekeeping and maintenance work activities such as ensuring work areas are clean and equipment stowage is completed in an efficient manner to ensure personnel safety.
  • Ensure materials, equipment and supplies are unloaded and back loaded to supply vessels in an efficient and safe manner.
  • Organise and direct deck crew and crane operations in an efficient and safe manner.  As per company and client requirements.
  • Organise deck layout ensuring safe access and egress to all equipment.
  • Provide Roustabouts to cover on the Rig Floor, Shakers and mixing operations.
  • Assist with maintenance on cranes as required.
  • Assist with transfer casing from supply boat to casing rack.
  • Inspect clean-up procedures after cementing operations, ensuring all drains are properly flushed clean of all cement residue.
  • Conduct inspection of all rigging equipment to regulatory standards.
  • Perform maintenance on drilling tools as directed.    
  • Attend onshore or offshore meetings and additional training, as required.
  • Attend safety meetings, emergency and life saving drills as required.
  • Attend and contribute to TBT/TRIC's and ensure full understanding of the planned operation and your responsibilities
  • In the event of an incident/accident, ensure all steps are taken to make the area secure for investigation and inform the Senior Odfjell Representative immediately
  • Properly use and care for personal protective equipment
  • Bring to the immediate notice of their supervisor, any potential hazards to safety, health, plant and equipment, which come to their attention in the course of their work
  • Carry out planned safety inspections when required
  • Make use of Safety Observation System e.g. BOSS/STOP, and take immediate action to contain, eliminate or guard against actual and potential hazards to safety, health, plant and equipment which come to their attention in the course of their work.
  • Conduct internal assessments (where applicable) to company standards and procedures on activities within your area of competence.
  • Responsible for conducting competence assessments in conjunction with the Odfjell Drilling Competence Assurance Management System (CAMS).
  • Recognise unsafe behaviours and conditions and safely STOP operations so as to prevent incident or accidents.

 

 

Emergency Response:       

                                                    

  • Knows and properly executes all emergency assignments in accordance with station bill as directed.
  • Knows rig abandonment procedures and is prepared to act quickly and decisively under direction of the rig supervisors.
  • Knows location and use of alarm systems in case of fire. Advises rig supervisors of fire immediately.
  • Renders assistance within personal qualifications in case of personal injury and reports any knowledge of the injury to rig supervisors immediately.
  • Reports equipment damage to rig supervisors immediately.

 

Fire, Accident & Rig Abandonment:

 

  • Ability to identify condition in drilling related area that could lead to an emergency.
  • Ability to identify condition in other areas that could lead to an emergency.
  • Ability to act accordingly in emergency situation.
  • Understanding of rig abandonment procedure.

 

Authority:

 

  • The Deck Foreman is authorised to plan and prepare the work of roustabouts.
  • The Deck Foreman is authorised to make decisions within his/her area of responsibility. If there is any doubt about safety, the Toolpusher must be consulted.
  • Deck Foreman is authorised to report non-conformances.

 

Deputy:

 

  • Roustabout if suitably qualified.

Qualifications and or Experience:              

                          

  • The Company primarily promotes experienced Roustabouts to this position, who have completed a Roustabouts competency level. (where applicable) New hires will preferably possess current experience as an offshore Roustabout Foreman
  • Must successfully pass pre-placement medical examination and drug screening.
  • Must be able to perform functions safely.
  • Must be able to comply with Company rules.
  • Must successfully satisfy all applicable international regulatory body and client training certification and/or marine license/document requirements.
