Call for Expressions of Interest to apply for a MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowship in the field of resilience and corporate sustainability at BI Norwegian Business School, Department of Strategy and Entrepreneurship

The Department of Strategy and Entrepreneurship at BI Norwegian Business School (BI) currently invites researchers outside of Norway to apply for a two-year EU-funded Marie Skłodowska-Curie Action Postdoctoral Fellowship (MSCA-PF).

This highly regarded fellowship gives candidates the opportunity to pursue a two-year research project as part of the department and under the supervision of an experienced professor within the field.

Eligible candidates must hold a PhD, have a maximum of 8 years of research experience from the time the PhD was awarded, and cannot have lived or worked in Norway for 12 months or more over the past three years.

 

About the Department of Strategy and Entrepreneurship

The Department of Strategy and Entrepreneurship is characterized by a dynamic and supportive research culture, with the ambition to impact research and practice both nationally and internationally. Active research areas include value creation, technology strategy, international business, entrepreneurship, innovation, networks and inter-organizational relations, organization design, strategic leadership, collaborative and knowledge-based strategy, and competitiveness. The Department of Strategy and Entrepreneurship is very well connected internationally, with multiple collaboration projects and visiting scholars, research seminars, and frequent attendance at leading research conferences.

The Department is responsible for programmes and courses at all levels (Bachelor, Master of Science, MBA, PhD and Executive Programmes) in the fields of Strategy, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation. The Department is currently home to about 40 full-time academic faculty and 15 PhD students.

 

Candidate qualifications

The Department of Strategy and Entrepreneurship invites candidates with a strong background in business, innovation studies, and/or economics to apply for a two-year EU-funded MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowship (MSCA-PF-2023). The candidate should have a research interest in the resilience and sustainability of corporations, and business systems and ecosystems, especially those that extend beyond national borders such as global value chains. Relevant research topics include the design, development, and implementation of circular economy solutions, and the roles, strategies, performance, and impact of contemporary multinational companies dealing with the double imperative of resilience and sustainability.

The successful candidate will be supervised by Professor Gabriel R.G. Benito. Benito has a recognized track record of research in strategy and international business. He is the author/editor of several books and of numerous publications in top international journals. He is a Fellow of Academy of International Business, and a Fellow of European International Business Academy, and is currently co-editor of Global Strategy Journal. His present research agenda focuses on corporate governance, the strategies and organization of multinational enterprises, and the economic organization of international business.

 

Application procedure

With this call for Expressions of Interest, we invite candidates to submit an initial two-page outline of their proposed project and a CV to research@bi.no by 27 February 2023

The project outline should include a brief description of:

  • the purpose of the project, including the hypothesis or central research question that the project seeks to test/answer
  • why it is important to undertake this research, including how the project contributes to the state-of-the-art
  • what research methodology and approach will be used
  • the complementary between the candidate and supervisor, and why BI is an appropriate host institution

The Expressions of Interest will be evaluated internally at BI and candidates will be selected for full application development, including participating in the MSCA-PF Master Class hosted in April 2023. The selected candidates will develop their MSCA-PF applications in collaboration with their BI supervisor and with the support from the team for external financing at BI. The deadline for submitting the full MSCA-PF proposal is mid-September 2023.
