Associate Professor / Professor in Organizational Behaviour
BI Norwegian Business School invites applications for two positions as Associate Professor or Professor in Organizational Behaviour at Campus Trondheim.
BI Norwegian Business School is one of Scandinavia's leading business schools, known for combining research-based knowledge with strong ties to business and industry. Campus Trondheim sits in one of Norway's most attractive student cities — a place consistently rated among the best student destinations in the country, with a vibrant academic environment and a close-knit local business community. Today, the campus hosts eight Norwegian bachelor's degree programmes with a total of 2,200 students across three academic years."
The position will be organizationally affiliated with Campus Trondheim, while also being part of the Department of Leadership and Organization at the Bergen, Stavanger and Oslo campus. This gives you both a local academic home and a broader national research community to be part of.
Campus Trondheim is establishing a new Master programme in leadership and organizational psychology set to start in autumn 2027 and is now building the academic community needed to get there. These two positions are a central part of that build-up and mark the start of growing local capacity in leadership and organizational science, alongside related fields such as research methodology and organizational ethics and sustainability.
Job description
BI has an ambition to make its mark in the international research community while at the same time developing our students’ academic competence and skills. Relevance and impact on practice are ensured through extensive contact with business and industry. Teaching must be research based, show practical relevance and and develop students' academic and practical competence.
Expectations and obligations
Our faculty is expected to provide teaching and supervision of a high academic and pedagogical quality and is expected to continuously develop their teaching skills, e.g. by making use of new technology, new ways of learning and new forms of assessment. We have focus on quality and competence development and pedagogical activities should be continuously documented, supporting the process for further academic career development to all positions.
For all positions with research duties BI has high expectations for research production. Failing to meet the expectations could lead to increased duties in teaching.
Those employed in a scientific position will also have teaching and pedagogical development responsibilities. In addition to traditional teaching, the position includes development of courses, learning activities, forms of evaluation, and guidance.
Qualification Requirements
Required
• A PhD in organizational behaviour, organizational psychology, management, or a closely related discipline
• An established track record in top-quality outlets within the field, matching the level required for Associate Professor or Professor as applicable
• Fulfilment of BI's requirements for educational qualifications for academic staff, in accordance with governmental provisions and the relevant scientific level
• Proficiency in English, both written and oral. As the position may involve teaching in Norwegian, Norwegian language proficiency at a minimum of B2 level is required or must be attained within three years of appointment.
Desirable
• Research expertise in one or more of the following areas: leadership and organizational science, quantitative research methodology, or ethics, sustainability and organizational culture
• Documented teaching experience
• Experience with interactive or process-oriented teaching methods
• International research experience within business, management, or organizational psychology
• Experience contributing to the development of study programmes or new courses
According to governmental provisions BI has decided on requirements concerning the educational qualifications of permanently employed academic staff. As a minimum such qualifications shall meet the learning outcome of BI ‘s pedagogical basic qualification courses or equivalent at all times. To the position of Lecturer and Associate Professor, and in some rare instances for international professors, this specific competence may be obtained within two years after commencing the position.
Personal qualities
We are looking for someone who:
• Is genuinely motivated to build and grow an academic community, not just join an established one
• Communicates clearly and engages well with students, colleagues, and external partners
• Takes initiative and is comfortable working in a developing environment where structures are still taking shape
• Balances academic rigor with practical relevance
What we can offer
• The opportunity to shape a growing academic environment from an early stage
• Membership in BI's collective pension scheme
• A strong professional environment with good research support and publication incentives
• A clear focus on career development, both in research and teaching
• A vibrant, attractive city to live and work in, with strong support services for staff and — where relevant — their families
• Relocation support
