Tender Controller in the Tender Controlling Department

Nexans’ submarine power cables are key in the transition to more renewable energy whether connecting islands to the mainland or bringing green energy from the offshore wind farm to the grid.  In cooperation with our world-wide customers we push technological boundaries to go deeper, longer, at higher voltages and to provide turn-key solutions for installation and protection to meet future needs.

Information about the department and the position:

Tender Controlling department has the main responsibility for all commercial aspects related to a tender, such as P&L with related financial metrics, price schedule, cash flow and all commercial and operational risk associated with the tender. The tender controller is part of the Tender Controlling department and will be reporting to Tender Controlling Lead Norway who is reporting to Head of Project and Tender Controlling.

Responsibilities and tasks

  • Tender Preparation: responsible for building and challenging the P&L. Role of advisor on contractual terms, to limit the company’s exposure to all possible risks
  • Collecting and challenging costs calculation performed by other departments involved in tender   preparation, including production and installation departments.
  • Prepares accurate cost estimates and associated deliverables. working closely with Production, Installation, Procurement, Finance departments - collecting and challenging the input, establishing the best ways for the tender controllers to obtain accurate costing.
  • Prepares the price break down as requested by the client.
  • Builds and challenges the Tender P&L, Cash Flow curve and other required financial metrics.
  • Contributes at the tender stage to the assessment of all financial risks, currency and commodity risk, cash flow, assessing bank guarantees, international tax issues, credit risk
  • Contributes in drafting contractual terms, limiting the company’s risks exposure
  • Supports actively the Sales and Tendering team to develop the most cost-effective execution plan for tenders
  • Engages with above mentioned departments to identify potential cost savings based on historical benchmark and synergies between projects
  • Identifies, quantifies and timely flags cost uncertainties and associated risks

What we are looking for

  • 5+ years’ in finance/engineering, including tender controlling/costs estimation experience.
  • Knowledge of EPCI / turnkey projects environment preferred
  • Large work capacity, ability and experience working with global teams in a fast- paced multicultural international environment
  • Independent self-starter
  • Team spirit
  • Result and solution oriented
  • Analytical and Continuous improvement mindset
  • Strong business acumen
  • Experience reading legal documentation sufficient to identify the risks attached to contracts, and to address them with legal, tender and project departments
  • Able to synthesize information and prepare clear documentation/presentation
  • Advanced user of Excel
  • Good communication skills. Likes to work in a team.
  • Analytical mind
  • Sense of responsibility
  • Positive and ability to contribute to a good working environment
  • Fluent in English. Norwegian language is a plus, but not mandatory
