Kongsberg Maritime is expanding their activity within underwater acoustics and strengthening their applications support. The application engineer will support our customers with technical advice, planning and operation of our equipment for the best possible quality and efficiency. Contribution in the sales process, delivery, and engineering is also an important part of this role.

Our world class products are used in a wide range of subsea applications for inspection, survey, construction, installation, monitoring and research across the Commercial, Government and Academic market sectors. Our Underwater Acoustics products such as USBL, transponders, sonars, echo sounders are installed on ships, ROVs, USVs and AUV and typically integrated with a variety of complementary sensors and systems.

The Application Engineer role (primarily focused on UMAP – Underwater Mapping) is a great opportunity for a hydrographic surveyor who wants to make the transition to working onshore whilst keeping their practical skills up to date with some occasional field work. Travel to various countries in the Americas will be required with occasional travel world-wide.

Key accountabilities
· Become an expert on operation of Kongsberg hydrographic survey/ocean mapping systems and SIS software.
· Develop customer procedures for bespoke operations and applications
· Keep up to date with the latest relevant technologies and methods within our domain
· Assist in the integration of products to find optimal solutions to meet customers’ needs
· Support rental customers with expert advice on installation, calibration, and operation.
· Conduct product training seminars and demonstrations in the Americas and world-wide
· Produce application notes and articles
· Assist Product Managers with application knowledge
· Assist Project Managers with expert advice on system integration
· Assist the sales team on technical bids

Qualifications and experience
· Several years of work experience in hydrographic survey and/or ocean mapping operations
· Advanced understanding and operational experience with multibeam echo sounder systems and data acquisition and processing software including calibration and data quality assurance
· Board knowledge and expertise in the installation, setup and integration of multibeam echo sounders with surface navigation and motion/position reference systems and other peripheral sensors and software
· Experience with hydroacoustic positioning systems (USBL, LBL) and software
· Pragmatic, self-driven and solution-oriented
· Co-operate well with management team, share knowledge and support others in the pursuit of team goals
· BSc Degree in Survey, Oceanography, Geomatics, Cybernetics, Electronics or similar
· Excellent English and Spanish communication skills both oral and written
· Additional Portuguese language skills would be a plus.
· Good presentation skills
