We are seeking an anaesthesiologist for a three- to seven-month assignment in Malawi. The assignment can be arranged through leave from a senior consultant position or project funded position, with a start in February or August 2027.

The Department of Global Health administers Oslo University Hospital’s global health collaboration projects. It currently coordinates projects in Malawi, Ethiopia, South Africa and India. Through international exchange, the department supports the local training of health personnel in low- and middle-income countries. Partners share knowledge, skills and experience across institutions and cultures. 

The Blantyre-Oslo Surgical and Critical Care project, a collaboration between Oslo University Hospital and Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH), is seeking a specialist in anaesthesiology with broad experience in anaesthesia and critical care for an assignment in Blantyre, Malawi. You will help strengthen clinical skills and knowledge, primarily by supporting and supervising anaesthesia registrars. The role includes bedside clinical work, supervision and theoretical teaching. The focus will be shaped by your experience and interests, as well as the needs of the Department of Anaesthesia at QECH. You will also contribute to the intensive care unit, where the project has a nurse on placement, and support that colleague in their work.

The project receives funding from Norec. The assignment lasts three to seven months, with most of that time spent in Malawi. The remaining time is set aside for preparation, relevant training and follow-up work. You must attend Norec courses before and after your stay; at least one of these courses must be attended in person.

Kvalifikasjoner:

• Publicly approved anaesthesia specialist authorization.
  
• Relevant practice of at least 2 years duration.
  
• Preferred, but not required to have experience in paediatric anaesthesiology
  
• Relevant clinical experience with general anaesthesia and intensive care medicine.
  
• Preferably with solid clinical experience with regional anaesthesia.
  
• Preferably with experience in working with and or in Low and middle income countries or humanitarian work.
  
• Desirable with experience from supervision and implementation.
  
• Fluency in written and spoken English.
