Kongsberg Discovery Canada Ltd., a subsidiary of KONGSBERG, is a global technology company, providing innovative and reliable technology solutions for all marine industry sectors including merchant, offshore, subsea, and naval. Headquartered in Horten, Norway, the company has manufacturing, sales, and service facilities internationally. Kongsberg Discovery is a market leader in systems for positioning, surveying, and navigation. We are determined to provide our customers with innovative and reliable marine electronics that ensure optimal operation both on and under the sea.
At KONGSBERG, we believe in tackling challenging problems and delivering extreme performance for extreme conditions. We do that through excellent products and services developed for delivering the greatest benefits to our customers.
POSITION SUMMARY:
We are seeking a temporary Production Test Automation Engineer to accelerate the automation of our test suite at our sonar manufacturing facility. In this role, you will bridge the gap between software controls and physical hardware testing. You will be responsible for scripting, streamlining, and automating key functions across both our electronics test bench and sonar acoustic test environments. Since a portion of our current setup relies on LabVIEW, familiarity with National Instruments ecosystems and hardware communication protocols is essential.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Scripting & Automation: Design, write, and deploy automated test scripts to control hardware, electronics and sonar test fixtures, reducing manual testing cycles and improving throughput.
- Legacy Code Integration: Review, maintain, and expand existing LabVIEW-based test scripts and frameworks.
- Hardware Interfacing: Configure and program data acquisition (DAQ) systems, digital multimeters (DMMs), oscilloscopes, and specialized signal-processing equipment to interface seamlessly with automation software.
- Test Suite Optimization: Standardize and streamline test functions across electronics components testing and final sonar acoustic testing, to ensure robust data collection and repeatability.
- Troubleshooting: Debug test automation software issues and perform root-cause analysis on test setup failures to maximize production uptime.
- Acceptance Criteria and Yield: Align with product, engineering and quality on acceptance criteria and yield analytics
- Documentation: Deliver clear documentation of scripts, automation workflows, and operating procedures for production technicians to use post-contract.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Experience: Proven track record in test automation within a hardware manufacturing, aerospace, defense, or marine electronics environment.
- Software Proficiency: Strong background in scripting languages for hardware control (e.g. Python) is required, while experience for LabVIEW PXI, NI CLAD or CLD is strongly preferred.
- Hardware Familiarity: Solid understanding of core electronics principles, instrumentation, sensors, and data acquisition concepts (sampling rates, filtering, signal conditioning).
- Problem Solving: Strong analytical skills to troubleshoot complex electro-mechanical and acoustic test environments.
- Education: Degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Instrumentation, Computer Science, or equivalent hands-on experience.
Employment Type: Temporary, fixed term. Minimum 6 months.
Salary Range: $95,000 - $115,000 CAD annually, DOE
Work Location: Office located in Port Coquitlam, BC.
