For our San Francisco office we are looking to hire a US Legal Counsel.

 

Statkraft is looking to hire our first US lawyer to support its growing energy commodity business in the U.S.  This Lawyer will be responsible for energy and energy-related contracting (Power Purchase Agreements, ISDA, Single Trade Agreements, etc.) conducted by the US business.

 

This individual will be responsible for the contracting process from template creation through deal-closing.  They will be required to liase with internal Statkraft stakeholders (eg. Risk, Compliance, Credit, and Treasury) to solicit and properly incorporate feedback into active contracts.  This role is also expected to collaboratively engage with the US commercial team (Portfolio Management, Origination, Trading) to analyze, discuss and manage various risk exposures on active contracts.  Counsel is also expected to manage a variety of related legal processes, such as regulatory filings and attestations.  This individual will manage the interface between Statkraft’s Legal team and external US counsel.

 

Given the markets in which Statkraft US will be transacting, this individual will also need to have a strong understanding and familiarity of State and Federal specific programs (e.g. State RPS standards, CFTC and FERC market rules). 

 

Most importantly, our US lawyer will be responsible for not only ensuring all contracts (and related legal documents) incorporate the core principles, compliance standards, ethics, and modus operandi of Statkraft, but also promotes such values through exemplary leadership.

 

Your background:

 

• Excellent academic background
• Training at a leading private practice law firm
• At least seven years post JD experience

 

 

Your expertise:

• Energy commodity contracting, with emphasis on power and environ commodities
• Power Purchase Agreements in US electricity markets
• Standardized Contract Templates (ISDA, EEI, etc.) and their corresponding Annexes
• US Environmental, Renewable and Electricity policy

 

Your attitude:

• Understands the dual need to provide commercial legal advice and protect company’s risk position

• Helpful: experience working with a start-up style company and dealing with non-core issues arising from such business growth (HR, real estate, tax etc)

 

Expected to start work at 6am PST in order to communicate effectively with European colleagues.

 

This role will be based in San Francisco, CA however will be part of Statkraft Corporate Legal Dept and reporting to Head of Legal UK, Ireland and USA, based in London.

 

Frequent travel will be required to NYC office with occasional travel to Europe for team gatherings etc.
