We’re looking for a Transport Manager to lead our Transport Team based at DFDS Chesterfield. We work on behalf of major frozen food retailers, with close links to other DFDS sites and contracts based throughout the UK. Our aim is to operate a high performing team who deliver great service to our customers in the most cost-effective solution possible.

Working 5 days from 7, the role itself will be varied but there will be a focus on managing the daily performance. This will require you to plan, co-ordinate, manage, review and report upon the work activities of the team, to ensure we meet the expectations of our employees and customers. We need you to assist team members in problem solving, carrying out root cause analysis and driving improvements. Alongside the day-to-day tasks, we’ll want you to understand vehicle availability and investigate optimum ways of working, reducing costs. We welcome new ideas and innovation, so we are hoping you’ll come with lots of energy to engage with our existing team and customer. 

Leading by example, its essential you possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal as you will be involved in driver recruitment and direct communication with our customers, listening to their needs. A well organised approach, with the ability to prioritise tasks, whilst remaining calm under pressure is a prerequisite for working within a fast-paced operation. You will have responsibility for the compliance of the Health & Safety on site and our existing team, ensuring all legal requirements are met, hence, we require you to hold an international CPC and a relevant H&S qualification or experience. We’ll expect you to safeguard our audit performance set against regulatory, legislative, and business requirements and that these are maintained and completed.

It’s a fantastic role for you to showcase your skills and experience of managing and running a successful transport team. You’ll naturally need to have good IT skills covering Microsoft packages and an ability to understand external systems such as Tachomaster. This alongside the skillset to obtain an understanding of DFDS IT systems such as Velocity & Mandata in a short time frame. Working closely with the Regional Operations Manager for the Region, we’ll require you to be reactive to the needs of the business, flexing what the priorities are on any given day.
