Senior Project Engineer

Olje og gass Industri / Produksjon

Job Summary:

DNO is a Norwegian oil and gas operator focused on the Middle East region and the North Sea. Founded in 1971, DNO is Norway’s oldest oil company. With a leading position in terms of reserves and production in the Kurdistan region of Iraq, DNO produces around 110,000 barrels of oil per day from the flagship Tawke field.

Support the project manager in executing design engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover of the new and modified facilities. Supervise and/or interface with various entities that are engaged with EPC contractors and provide coordination with DNO internal stakeholders. 

The candidate will support the efficient execution of the projects to ensure that they are delivered within schedule, within cost, and in accordance with project quality and HSE standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the completion of the assigned scope consistent with the project’s objectives.
  • Understand the project execution plan, interface management, change management, construction sequencing, standards specifications, and project schedule to support the project manager and/or company representative in the timely completion of the project.
  • Steward the engineering and/or EPC contractor’s activities in project execution.
  • Be familiar with DNO execution plans and overall job requirements.
  • Coordinate and control all phases of project execution and administration, including engineering design, procurement, construction, pre-commissioning, closeout, invoice review and approval, compliance with DNO project requirements including administrative rules, costs, schedule and quality of deliveries and changes of scope.
  • Employ the appropriate design tools and adhere to all agreed specifications and standards.
  • Provide all contract documents, particularly those referred to in the scope of work.
  • Control the work, i.e., accurate and timely progress measurement, and reporting.
  • Represent the project manager and resident engineer at various EPC office and site locations and deputize as project manager if required.
  • Coordinate with engineering discipline lead engineers and/or task force groups to ensure on-time completion of work activities and the implementation of project control procedures.
  • Ensure EPC contractors / Manufacturers work to schedule, that any deviation is reported, and recovery plans are immediately initiated.
  • Implement multi-disciplinary projects from the design phase through to commissioning and handover.
  • Direct EPC contractor’s activities.
  • Define and safely deliver cost-effective project solutions to internationally recognized standards, some within challenging timescales.
  • Raise internal project technical and commercial approval documentation, review scope changes, and issue change requests as required.
  • Coordinate with the DNO project Engineering team representatives for the project.
  • Participate in HAZID, HAZAN, HAZOP, SIL, & QRA studies.
  • Produce professional project status reports.
  • Monitor project progress and ensure the necessary information flow between Stakeholders to meet project milestones.
  • Support the effective handover and closure of project contracts. 

Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • Degree in a relevant engineering discipline (B.Sc./B.Eng./M.Sc.)  
  • Minimum of 12 years experience in design, construction, and general project engineering in the oil and gas industry
  • Prior experience in managing all phases of project execution including engineering, procurement and fabrication/construction, managing and executing brownfield projects, and international project management assignments
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in project cost control and planning systems
  • Minimum of 8 years proven capability in an EPC type project
  • Experience working with multi-national and multi-cultural project teams strongly preferred
  • Previous experience with working in the Middle East would be an advantage.
  • Must have thorough/broad knowledge of industry standards, project engineering practices, design details, international codes and standards, procedures, and specifications
  • Hands-on experience with construction and commissioning.
  • Experience developing technically acceptable, constructible, and operable cost-effective solutions to complex problems.
  • Familiar with the use of functional specifications and how to follow up with EPC contractors.
  • Familiar with commonly used project management concepts and tools, used to contribute project control information.
  • Flexibility to travel internationally.

The role reports to EPC Projects and Planning Manager. The role will be based in Dubai with a work schedule of 5 days per week i.e. Sunday to Thursday. The role will be fixed term 12 months duration.
