Senior PPA Originator (m/f/d)

What we do:

 

Statkraft is the largest generator of renewable energy in Europe and an established participant within the various US environmental commodities markets. As part of the Trading and Origination department, the Origination team sources and manages a long-term portfolio of third-party renewable energy contracts. This portfolio usually consists of tailor-made Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) and longer-term sales contracts with a variety of large end customers. Currently, the team is expanding its activities to the US power and renewables markets, specifically PJM & ERCOT. The team is responsible for the origination, pricing, structuring, and portfolio management of all bilateral power and Renewable Energy Credits (REC) deals.

 

Your role:

 

As a Senior PPA Originator, you will be responsible for developing Statkraft into a leading market integrator in the PPA market, matching the needs of renewable generators to electricity buyers (with or without an RPS or voluntary obligation). You will be responsible for building on the existing downstream (and, partially, upstream) origination businesses, increasing both the flow of deals as well as new market relationships. You will be a key contributor to the pricing and hedging of all deals within the team. Finally, you will manage and be responsible for the completion of all tasks by leading through your expertise and commitment to collaboration.

 

Responsibilities:

 

• Build out and take ownership of Statkraft’s PPA origination business
• Identify, develop, negotiate, and execute complex structured energy transactions in PJM (and secondly, ERCOT) with a focus on renewable PPAs
• Contribute to pricing and hedging, in coordination with both Portfolio Management and other originators
• Build and maintain key relationships with various end-users
• Expand the pipeline of sales opportunities by generating high quality leads
• Manage and lead Statkraft’s team of professionals through all aspects of the complex sales process, coordinating internal support necessary for developing the key inputs required for profitable pricing and successful closing of transactions
• Assess and translate competition, industry trends, emerging customer challenges, and changes in the marketplace into market strategies and product offerings
• Take care of day-to-day administrative issues related to the contractual portfolio
• Create systems and tools to help business scale

 

 Your profile:

 

• 10+ years of experience originating and contracting financial PPAs within PJM
• 5+ years of analyzing and pricing PPA deals
• Strong understanding of all US renewables and power markets
• Experience and familiarity with non-standard power contract terms, ideally with long-term renewable PPAs and master trade agreements, such as ISDA and EEI
• Strong commercial mindset and high level of initiative and self-motivation
• Team player, leader, and listener with ability to operate in a start-up like group, wearing different hats at different times

 

Location:

 

• Given the small team size, it is expected that the Senior PPA Originator will be a regular presence in the San Francisco office (or possibly New York City office)
