Senior Electrical Power Engineer

We are currently looking for a Senior Electrical Power Engineer for rotating machines and third-party equipment. You will join our knowledgeable Energy Product development team which manages and develops the core electrical products that are used in our marine energy solutions.

Efficient electrical machines and components optimized in design and integration is a key enabler for energy conversion in electrical and hybrid propulsion systems. As a member of this team, you will be in the core of the technology that enables use of new energy sources and energy efficient solutions for the ongoing green shift in the maritime industry.

Key accountabilities

  • Design specification and validation of marine electric rotating machines - electric and mechanical design and marine 3d party equipment such as transformers and UPS
  • Electrical machine and frequency converter integration (HV and LV)
  • Technical assessment of and communication with electric machine manufacturers and internal/external suppliers of frequency converters, gensets, propellers etc.
  • Technical support towards Kongsberg Maritime’s product solutions-, vessel design-, propulsion-, deck machinery-, sales-, delivery-, service- and supply chain organization
  • Communicate with marine classification authorities and other relevant certification bodies
  • Generate and maintain documentation and engineering tools

Qualifications and experience

  • Master of science in electrical engineering, electric machine/drives power system integration or equivalent
  • Preferably knowledge of:
    • electrical and mechanical machine and electrical power electric equipment design
    • electric machine integration with variable speed frequency converters
    • electric machine integration with vessel structure, shaft lines and generator set
    • excitation systems and control
    • relevant product standards and marine classification rules
    • Preferably experience with testing and qualification of new products according to product standards, from low and high voltage marine electric/hybrid propulsion systems or power generation systems or equivalent industrial/offshore systems
