Senior Development Geologist

Job Summary:

DNO is a Norwegian oil and gas operator focused on the Middle East region and the North Sea. Founded in 1971, DNO is Norway’s oldest oil company. With a leading position in terms of reserves and production in the Kurdistan region of Iraq, DNO produces around 110,000 barrels of oil per day from the flagship Tawke field.

Designs and delivers geological interpretation analysis and interpretation as part of development well planning and support to well operations using detailed geological / petrophysical understanding. Provides technical advice and analyses allowing efficient management of field performance.

Key Responsibilities:

Reservoir & Development Geology 

  • Manages the geological interpretation and incorporation of newly drilled and offset well data to improve field understanding, incorporate learnings during well planning/delivery to maximise production.
  • Utilize experience of logging tools, operations, petrophysical and image interpretation skills into optimization of well planning and operations.
  • Responsibility for geoscience input, to drilling, completion, stimulation, testing and work-over programs including support to petrophysics:
    • Assist to develop new drillable well locations in timely manner with Subsurface Development team.
    • Guide and QA/QC various well data acquisition and subsurface work programs.
    • Timely delivery of well proposals
    • Support the geological operational activities during drilling campaigns and provide post well analysis integrating data acquired
  • Support effective integration of key aspects of petrophysical data, fracture characterization into the development of static and dynamic reservoir models with interfacing with peers.
  • Able to perform uncertainty analysis on the various modelling input parameters addressing the full field range of uncertainty and its impact on volumetric scenarios “Keep Uncertainty Live”. 
  • Works closely with the subsurface team (operations geologist, geophysicist, reservoir engineers, petrophysicists) to ensure data integration between different domains, mitigation of subsurface risk and assure subsurface product quality control.
  • Support geological database, data management and quality control efforts related to field geological data and seismic data for operational and well planning field models.

Safety, Quality & Environment

Ensures compliance to all relevant safety, quality and environmental management procedures and controls within the feasibility analysis function to guarantee employee safety, legislative compliance, delivery of high-quality products/services and a responsible environmental attitude.

Required Qualifications & Experience: 

  • M.Sc. in Geology, Geophysics or Petroleum Engineering.
  • Minimum 15 years in the oil and gas industry (operator, non-operator).
  • Solid experience in natural fractured carbonate reservoirs.
  • Proven technical skills across the geosciences, petroleum engineering in a production geologist/ development role, with solid petrophysical background.
  • Extensive experience with well delivery from well planning to operations utilizing subsurface skillset.
  • Capable of evaluating risks, uncertainty, value of information.
  • Strong business and commercial awareness, analysis, problem solving, planning including risk assessment and mitigation.
  • Build and maintain business relationships, internally and externally including JV technical management. Proficiency with MS office suite.

The role reports to Development Well Planning Manager and will be based in Dubai, UAE. The Contract duration is unlimited and will be 5 days per week Monday to Friday.
