Postdoctoral Position In Applied Macroeconomics at CAMP

Skole - Universitet

Two postdoc positions (for 2-3 years) are vacant at the BI Norwegian Business School within the area of Applied Macroeconomics at the Department of Economics. The positions are part of the research project “The Corona-crisis, structural change, and macroeconomic policy” (CSM: NFR project number 315008), financed by the Norwegian Research Council and BI Norwegian Business School.

The research project aims to address how alternative methodological approaches and data can be used to analyze and better understand the underlying drivers and spillovers of economic crisis, structural economic change, and the effects of policy intervention in these settings. A special focus will be placed on the COVID-19 episode and structural economic change in resource rich economics such as Norway.

The research project is headed by Professor Hilde C. Bjørnland, and will be organized at the Centre for Applied Macro and commodity Prices (CAMP) at BI Norwegian Business School in Oslo in collaboration with NTNU in Trondheim.

The successful applicant will join the team working on the research project, contribute to the project’s individual research tasks, and also become an integrated part of CAMP and the Department of Economics at BI Norwegian Business School.

Applicants must hold a doctoral degree when entering the period. We value an interdisciplinary education/work background. Applicants with strong analytical skills (data science) and an interest in computational social science and macroeconomics will be preferred. For one of the positions, knowledge of natural language processing (NLP) will count favorably. Proven experience working with Norwegian- or international register data (micro data) will also count favorably.  Knowledge of Norwegian language is not required.

Competence will be evaluated in accordance with ordinary regulations for academic positions at universities and specialized university institutions. The evaluation will be based on the quality of previous research as well as its relevance for the research activities of the project. Applicants may be called for an interview and/or seminar presentation. The position will only be filled if qualified candidates are identified.

Salary is determined based on the Norwegian State Salary Scale, and the project provides ample support for research related activities and conference travels. The position gives automatic membership in BI's pension scheme (Storebrand). In addition, BI Norwegian Business School has a bonus system for publications in selected journals, with up to 200,000 NOK per publication (i.e., around 25,000 USD).

The following documents must be submitted electronically: A (max. one-page) motivation letter, an updated CV (including a complete list of publications and doctoral course work), formal documentation of highest obtained academic degree and other particularly relevant education. Any additional information and/or documentation of other activities that may be of significance for evaluating the applicant’s qualifications can also be submitted.

Additional information about the position can be obtained by contacting the administrative chair of Department of Economics, Kari-Mette Sætersdal (kari-mette.satersdal@bi.no) or Associate Professor and CAMP manager Leif Anders Thorsrud (leif.a.thorsrud@bi.no).

BI Norwegian Business School is an equal opportunity employer. We actively encourage women to apply.
