Operations Director

Who we are –With over 500 employees, an annual turnover of £60 million and a 175-acre site in Immingham, DFDS Seaways are the largest Roll on Roll off Shipping and Terminal Operator on the Humber.  Serving 35 DFDS vessel arrivals and departures from 5 countries every week, DFDS moves over 725,000 units through Immingham every year.  In addition, we store, handle and move almost 700,000 tonnes of Industrial cargo such as Steel, Timber, Paper and Refuse Derived Fuel.  

The Role… DFDS is currently seeking an Operations Director, based at our offices in Immingham. The role will report to the Managing Director of DFDS Seaways UK and will be part of the Senior Leadership Team.

The main responsibilities for the role are to provide leadership and strategic direction for the operational activity for DFDS Seaways UK PLC South Terminal and associated cargoes and infrastructure. The Operations Director will be responsible for directing a safe and efficient operation and providing operational solutions to drive growth within the existing customer base and adding new customers to the portfolio.  This position will also align the key aims of the WIN23 strategy and will bring clarity and transparency to ensure the profitability and efficiency of the entire supply chain is understood and maximum value extracted.  As a key part of the Senior Leadership Team, this role will also help shape the culture and strategic development of all areas of the business.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Be a role model for DFDS to your team, the wider DFDS business and beyond.
  • Be a member of the UK Senior Leadership Team, responsible for decision making and strategy and policy setting across the DFDS Seaways UK PLC business.
  • Create and implement new operational solutions that supports new business opportunities with new customers.
  • Be a figurehead for our safety culture journey in the UK and other countries.
  • Collaborate with other DFDS divisions to develop new opportunities and cargo flows supporting our business and the Business Verticals.
  • Innovate new solutions to grow the range of services available to our customers to build strong and long-term relationships.
  • Working with the DFDS Digital team develop technological solutions to enhance our service offering and differentiate us from the competition.
  • Lead the operational performance of the warehousing and terminal business, including Safety, Efficiency and Profitability.
  • Work with Industry Forums and government bodies to drive DFDS’ agenda.
  • Prepare and produce budgets and KPI reports as required in collaboration with the relevant stakeholders.

Your profile:

-       Has experience working at a senior level within the transport / logistics sector.
-       Experience of Warehouse Management would be advantageous.
-       Can demonstrate a track-record of creating new and innovative solutions that had a direct impact on top and bottom line and customer satisfaction.
-       Experience of setting and delivering an operational strategy targeting improvements in efficiency and operational performance.
-       Has experience leading a team of +100 people in an organizational setup with a similar level of complexity.
-       Experience of working collaboratively with other areas of the business to deliver results is essential.
