Vianode is a new business entity in Elkem and we aim to become a leading solutions provider to the fast-growing battery industry. We are now seeking Lab Technicians to join this exciting entrepreneurial venture!

It’s a great opportunity for someone who is looking to enter the state-of-the-art lithium-ion battery industry. You will be trained on lithium-ion battery chemistry through personalized video lectures and in building and assembling coin cells and pouch cells (the kind of battery you have on your cell phone). You will be a key member of a cross-functional product development team.

This job includes graphite material processing, fabrication of laboratory-scale lithium-ion battery anode electrodes, coin cell and pouch cell building, and data logging.

The primary responsibilities of this position will be to carry out lab operations safely and efficiently, complete delicate task promptly and have solid attention to details skill.

The successful candidate is a dedicated team player who thrives in a highly technical and collaborative work environment.

Areas of responsibilities

• Handling graphite material and working on lab-scale electrode slurry mixers and coaters
• Assembly of various Li-ion cell prototypes, including coin cells and small pouch cells in an environmentally controlled chamber, glovebox
• Logging and extracting data from testers
• Providing technical support and take initiatives in the product as well as process improvement
• Drive continuous improvement in standardized test protocols as well as in data acquisition, analysis
• Develop and adhere to lab safety protocols and maintain clean and safe work areas
• Support other projects as needed

Requirements

• Two+ years working in a technical position in a mechanical or chemical industry
• Relevant education
• Two years of practical laboratory experience would be preferred
• Experience with lab-scale instruments and familiarity with quality control methods used to evaluate the repeatability of the processes
• Demonstrated experience following written/verbal standard operating procedure (SOP).
• Strong desire to work in an advanced technical field
• Ability to thrive in a dynamic and constantly changing environment.
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment, taking direction from multiple sources as needed
• Basic MS Office skills in Word and Excel required
• Ability to speak, read and write in English is required
• Ability to speak, read and write in Norwegian is an advantage
