The Technology business unit in the Integrated Solutions division is responsible for executing product and technology development enabling KM competitive edge while also driving the technology platform upgrades and generation shift.

We require an Intellectual Property manager/advisor to manage and coordinate the Integrated Solution Division’s IP/IPR activities, working both with outside counsel as well as project engineers and senior management to develop and maintain our IP portfolio.

The position reports to Research & Innovation Manager.

 

Main tasks and responsibilities

• Establish and maintain IP/IPR strategy and best practices for the division
• Contribute to driving idea generation and innovation processes
• Act as the division’s primary Point of Contact with patent authorities and external patent offices
• Track and follow-up patent applications and patents including renewals and continuations
• Follow up directives and guidelines related to KONGSBERG IP/IPR policy and management
• Support the division business unit managers in specific IP/IPR cases including:
  • Novelty search
  • Competitor monitoring
  • Freedom to Operate Analysis
  • Patent Infringement Accusations
  • Patent Oppositions
  • IP/IPR in contracts and agreements
• Collaborate with other KM divisions and KOG areas to develop and implement common patent and innovation handling methods and processes across KONGSBERG
• Stimulate innovation by increasing patent activity in the Division
• Maintain budget overview of external costs with patent agents and external legal advice in relation to filings, renewals and other issues. Develop and maintain budget in relation to internal costs relating to inventor reward payments
• Manage patent landscaping, patent monitoring & technology watch initiatives
• Contribute to business unit IP initiatives as part of a Kongsberg Maritime wide IP team
• Organise IP/IPR information meetings and internal courses for the Division

 

Requirements

• A minimum of Masters level education is strongly preferred
• A minimum three years experience managing the preparation and prosecution of patent applications and the conduction of patentability and freedom-to-operate searches
• Ability to develop strategic plans necessary to provide a strong IP position for the Company’s products and clearly articulate those plans to senior management.
• Strong advocacy skills in connection with patent prosecution
• Must be fluent in written and spoken English
• Security Clearance may be required
