DFDS AS

Infrastructure Engineer, specialising in monitoring systems

We are looking for an Infrastructure Engineer specialised in monitoring systems to be part of the Data Centre Team to provide technology expertise and support for our infrastructure environment.

As part of the Data Centre team in DFDS’ Support & Operations department you will be involved in both projects and operational tasks.

The role will ensure that infrastructure service requirements are met for a wide range of business systems and applications, by automating IT and business tasks, to continuously improve DFDS’ standards.

Lead and implement ideas in the context of Monitoring required for supporting corporate operations.

As our new team member, you will learn the inner workings of DFDS infrastructure - but don’t get too settled, as the rulebooks are all being rewritten!
DFDS is on a cloud journey and assumptions are being challenged, as we move away from traditional on-premise infrastructure to an Infrastructure-as-Code hybrid cloud data centre.

The architecture and operation of infrastructure monitoring systems will be your main area of responsibility. Your first assignment will be to familiarise yourself with our SCOM monitoring system.
We have a constantly growing need for monitoring of both Data Centre infrastructure, applications, and cloud services, and you will lead and implement the charge to automate and uplift them. Your ideas and expertise will drive us forward together.

Your daily exploits

It is expected you will take the lead in developing our monitoring capabilities to a level where we have useful and accurate telemetry of our infrastructure, as well as to help design and build a system monitoring framework for all of DFDS.

You will take part in projects including the deployment of new business systems and applications, and implementation of new technologies.

Due to the nature of the business processes and the need for them to be highly available, planned activities and upgrades will sometimes need to be completed outside business hours. In a post-COWID19 world some travel activities most be expected approx. 5-10 days a year.

You have technical experience and knowledge in:

  • Automating infrastructure tasks using a range of scripting tools, such as PowerShell and Terraform
  • Microsoft SCOM monitoring system, and preferably other systems such as Prometheus/Grafana
  • Cloud technologies such as AWS and Azure IAAS services
  • DevOps concepts and experience working with developers
  • Microsoft Windows Servers and Active Directory
  • Hyper-V and VMware environments
  • ITIL Foundation principles

Personally, you are:

  • Change ready!
  • Willing and able to expand your knowledge as needed
  • Structured and data-driven.
  • Collaborative. You’re always ready to help out where needed and love sharing your knowledge
  • Patient and persistent
  • Fluent in oral and written English
  • Oh… did we mention that you need to be ready for change?

We offer you an interesting position, placed in a successful and constantly evolving company. You will get to work with a professional and reliable team in an environment where we put effort into staying current with the data centre industry.
