The main activities of the Business Area "Markets and IT" (M) are energy management for Statkraft’s assets, trading & origination and market access services in Europe, South America, and India. In addition, the business area contains local business support, finance & risk support, and IT services. In M there are more than 700 employees.  

The Digitalization unit (MTD) is a newly established unit in the Trading and Origination department (MT) in Statkraft, with the core focus of driving digitalization in the department. Digitalization will be crucial for MT to deliver on its strategic targets of expanding the proprietary trading and customer business. MTD will speak the language of both business and IT and build strong skills within business knowledge, quantitative methodology and technology.

We are now looking for a Head of Data and Analytics in MTD. You will be responsible for building and leading a new team of business software developers and analysts who in close cooperation with our company IT department will deliver data and solutions to our traders and originators. The team will deliver solutions to all MT’s trading offices in Europe and the US and support the further growth of the trading business across new commodities and geographies.

The role will give the right candidate the opportunity to shape and influence the future design of the IT landscape for the trading business in Statkraft. This is an extremely important role for MT; and the success of the team will be crucial to have continued success and expand our trading business.

The position can be in Oslo or Düsseldorf and will report to VP Digitalisation – Trading & Origination (MTD), based in Oslo.

Head of Data and Analytics

Key responsibilities:

• Define the requirements and work on the establishment of a state-of-the-art architecture for data storage and data access to users and applications across the Trading and Origination department.
• Define the department’s data needs and data acquisition and handling strategy. Create data access services for the department as required.
• Support traders and analysts who work as citizen developers with the creation of custom applications and quantitative models. Ensure timely support through continuously changing requirements.
• Interface and cooperate with the IT department to create a suitable solution infrastructure & architecture for the identified business requirements, adhering to company policies.
• Support the creation of the department’s algorithmic trading strategy and be responsible for driving the implementation.

Your profile:

• Master’s degree in software development, computer science or related disciplines.
• Leadership experience from leading diverse quantitative or development teams. Ability to lead and influence others. Your team will be distributed across several geographical locations and experience on leading virtual teams is beneficial.
• Good understanding of the trading business, commodity markets and quantitative modelling.
• Strong communication skills and ability to manage a complex and demanding set of stakeholders with diverse requirements.
• Ability to stay focused on the long-term vision while at the same time being able to deliver on short term (and rapidly changing) needs
• Collaborative - ability to build good relat ionships with the internal customers in MT and with the company IT department.
• Strong coding and data management capabilities and specifically:
  • Git, Python 3.6+, Anaconda/Miniconda, PyCharm
  • Optional: Docker, C# .NET, C++ (and Python integration), Jira, Confluence, Gitlab
  • Advantageous: Experience with Microsoft Azure, algorithmic trading
• Fluent in English both oral and in writing – other languages an advantage.
