The Graduate Mechanical Engineer will support the design, development, and delivery of marine electrical systems and equipment. Working under the guidance of experienced engineers, the role provides experience across electrical design, documentation, testing, and engineering processes. This position offers a strong foundation for graduates looking to build a technical career in a highly regulated engineering environment.
What you will be doing
Mechanical Design & Documentation
- Assist in preparing drawings, assemblies, and 3D CAD models.
- Support the creation, modification, and management of 2D drawings, 3D models and Bills of Materials (BOMs) within the company’s data management system.
- Produce technical documentation including reports, manuals, test procedures, and Design Change Notes (DCNs) in accordance with company standards.
Engineering Activities
- Assist with engineering calculations relating to equipment sizing, electrical loads, and general system functionality.
- Participate in design reviews, supporting the evaluation of supplier and customer technical documentation.
- Work with experienced engineers to understand the configuration of motor control systems, variable speed drives, and electrical equipment used in marine environments.
- Support troubleshooting, investigation of non-conformances, and structured problem-solving activities.
Project & Process Support
- Contribute to estimating and delivering work packages.
- Apply company processes, QMS, and change control.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
- Support tender activities.
Engineering Learning & Development
- Work under supervision to learn the fundamentals of mechanical engineering, marine systems, and industry standards.
- Show enthusiasm for participating in engineering, manufacturing, projects, and service functions.
Professional Development & Behavior
- Demonstrate a proactive and positive approach to learning, continuous improvement, and professional conduct.
- Maintain good communication and teamwork.
- Ensure compliance with all company Health & Safety policies and procedures.
We think you should have
Minimum Requirements
- Degree (BEng/BSc) in Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Basic understanding of electrical engineering principles.
- Competent user of Microsoft Office.
- Ability to communicate clearly.
- Organised, self-motivated, and capable of managing multiple tasks.
- Logical thinker with good problem-solving skills and strong attention to detail.
- Willingness to learn new tools, technologies, and engineering methods.
Desirable Skills
- Any relevant work experience.
- Experience with CAD design tools (Creo, AutoCAD, Ansys, or similar).
- Understanding of design in regulated industries.
- Awareness of FEA Studies and conducting MathCAD calculations from first principles.
