Global Category Manager - Energy Products Category

As a Global Category Manager, your primary goal is to lead and oversee the strategic procurement activities within specific global product or service categories. You will be responsible for developing and executing category strategies that align with the organization’s overall objectives, optimizing supplier relationships, driving cost efficiencies, and ensuring product or service quality. Close collaboration with all relevant stakeholders is required to successfully complete sourcing projects according to KM sourcing process. Energy Products Category currently include both in-house and purchased solutions for energy management, with the main products being switchboard, switchgears, frequency converters etc.

Responsibilities: 

  • Category Management:
    • Identify key product or service categories critical to the business and develop comprehensive category strategies across Kongsberg Group.
    • Analyse global market trends, risks, and opportunities within the category to drive strategic sourcing decisions.
    • Implement and update category plans, including goals, timelines, and required resources. Execute sourcing projects in line with requirements set out in our BMS.
  • SUPPLIER RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT:
    • Identify potential global suppliers within the category, assess their qualifications, and negotiate optimal contract terms.
    • Build and maintain strong collaborative relationships with suppliers to ensure reliable access to high-quality products or services.
    • Proactively seek and promote sustainability in our supply chain.
  • COST ANALYSIS AND SAVINGS:
    • Conduct in-depth cost analysis and evaluate alternative sourcing options to identify cost-saving opportunities within the category.
    • Implement cost-saving initiatives and monitor their effectiveness.
  • PROJECT MANAGEMENT:
    • Lead complex global procurement projects within the category, coordinating cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
    • Ensure projects are executed within established timelines and budgets. Provide guidance and leadership to a team of sourcing professionals.
    • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and development within the sourcing team.
  • RISK MANAGEMENT:
    • Identify and mitigate risks associated with global category procurement, including supplier dependencies and supply chain disruptions.
    • Develop contingency plans to ensure business continuity.

Qualifications and experience: 

  • Master’s degree in business, supply chain management, or a related field. Advanced degrees are a plus.
  • Proven experience in strategic procurement, category management, and supplier relationship management on a global scale.
  • Minimum of [8] years of experience in strategic sourcing or procurement.
  • Strong analytical skills, including the ability to interpret complex data and trends.
  • Excellent and effective communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments and cultures.
  • Project management experience and a track record of successful project execution.
  • Familiarity with procurement systems and tools.
  • Good understanding of modern procurement digital tools and methods application of AI tools in procurement is positive.
  • Good MS Excel and MS PowerPoint skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English.

Work location

Preferably Poland (Kraków); Bekkajordet - Horten; Carpus - Kongsberg; Godvik - Bergen, but other KM locations in Europe can be considered for the right candidate.
This position typically involves office-based work but may require travel for supplier visits, conferences, or other relevant events.
