Development Geologist

Job Summary:
DNO is a Norwegian oil and gas operator focused on the Middle East region and the North Sea. Founded in 1971, DNO is Norway’s oldest oil company. With a leading position in terms of reserves and production in the Kurdistan region of Iraq, DNO produces around 110,000 barrels of oil per day from the flagship Tawke field.
Provide geological input into detailed well planning as well as support to RPO team, support drilling operations. Support data management of incoming operational geological data and associated interpretation as part of well operational campaigns.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform detailed well planning by providing technical input
- To develop new drillable well locations in timely manner with Subsurface Development team and EIA requirements
- Planning of detailed trajectories incorporating area understanding and managing/outlining key uncertainties
- Collect and manage the incorporation of new drilled and offset well data to improve understanding
- Works closely with the subsurface team (operations geologist, geophysicist, reservoir engineers, petrophysicist) to ensure data integration between different domains and improve integrated subsurface risk and uncertainty understanding
- Actively contributes to well operational data management, related to field geological data and for operational and well planning field model.
- Coordinate subsurface mapping data using appropriate systems like ArcGIS.
- Assist in AI pilots to improve efficiency and identification of new opportunities.
- Coordinates and assist End Of Well Operational Reporting (EOWRs), post well reviews and maintains subsurface lesson learned register.
- Follows up on actions register and requirements.
- Contribute to identify new technology, develop tools to improve well planning and delivery to maximise production.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- M.Sc. in Geology, Geophysics or Petroleum Engineering.
- Minimum 8 years in the oil and gas industry (operator, non-operator)
- Proven technical skills across the geosciences, petroleum engineering in a production geologist/ development role
- Experience with well delivery from well planning to operations utilizing subsurface skillset
- Capable of evaluating risks, uncertainty
- Build and maintain business relationships, internally and externally including JV technical management. Proficiency with MS office suite.
Key Competencies:
- Excellent English verbal, written communication and presentation skills
- Affinity with IT tools, database, mapping software’s and interest in digitalization
- Proven knowledge of PETREL geosciences and e.g. ARCGIS
- Ability to work with dash boards, Power BI
- Subsurface data integration & management, QC and interpretation
- Knowledge of drilling planning process, terminology and limitations
Key Attributes:
- Good team player, patience and pro-active attitude in influencing work of diverse groups
- Ability to work independently, multitask and under pressure and tight deadlines
- Ability to assist operational geology team to make operational decisions based on acceptable geological reasoning
- Willingness to work outside office hours
- Able to work in multi-cultural and multi-discipline organization with integrity and sensitivity
The role reports to Development Well Planning Manager and will be based in Dubai, UAE. The Contract duration is unlimited and will be 5 days per week Monday to Friday.
