Country Manager, Greater China

Job purpose and scope:

The Greater China activity covers the following scope:
Sales & Marketing, project management and deliveries, manufacturing, supply chain, customer support and external relations. The portfolio of offerings includes products, systems and services from ISOL, S&R, P&E and DMMC representing all Kongsberg Maritime divisions.
The company has approximately 520 employees at 4 locations.
The business structure consists of 7 legal entities, in the process of simplification


The Country Manager role’s purpose and responsibility is:

  • Manage the company according to budgets, governing policies/direction,  KONGSBERG Code of Ethics, Business Conduct as well as local laws and regulations
  • Lead , direct and control key activities to achieve short and long term financial and operating objectives
  • Establish and execute the country strategy aligned with STP plans from KOG, KM product divisions, GSM and GCS.
  • Manage the country leadership team including all disciplines in a structured governance model
  • Overall responsibility for sustainable operation and development of KMC in line with local market situation as well as ensure effective services and deliveries to product divisions.
  • Maintain close collaboration with Kongsberg Maritime functions to ensure global operational efficiency and “healthy” business for Kongsberg Maritime
  • Ensure strong alignment, collaboration and stakeholder management with Divisions and other stakeholders, and represent and promote Greater China as part of a strong global Kongsberg Maritime


Main tasks:

  • Support development of the right competence, capability and cost base for the country
  • Be accountable for delivery of activity (project execution/assembly) to product divisions. Define local content/regional/ governmental requirements for inclusion in procurement sourcing and execution and support local sourcing needs in alignment with divisions
  • Support GCS in highlighting and drive resolution of any significant in-country service Support sales where needed and facilitate voice of customer/country with sales & divisions, ensuring efficient and effective links, especially in the KM integration phase
  • Drive optimization of functional activities, and ensuring efficient cross-functional and divisional prioritisation (what does this mean?)
  • Driving change and efficient execution of activities to reach Value Capture targets
  • Be a ‘ONE KM’ role model
  • Be a part of regional teams, looking for opportunities for making best use of capability across the region
  • Represent KONGSBERG in the Norwegian Business Association of China and Team Norway including close collaboration with the Norwegian Consulate in Shanghai and the Norwegian Embassy in Beijing



  • International experience
  • Relevant, higher education
  • 5-10 years’ experience within senior management positions
  • Experience with Kongsberg Maritime´s international business principles
  • Knowledge and experience with Kongsberg Maritime´s product and systems portfolio
  • Cultural agility, with experience of Chinese/Asian culture preferred
  • Highly collaborative, experienced in working in complex matrix organization structures
  • Value and behavior-based leadership style with ability to unify, change and motivate the organization according to agreed strategy
  • Self-driven and ability to see the big picture with strong operational/execution skills
