DFDS operates 3 shortsea routes and 30 weekly intermodal connections (rail, barge) out of Belgium. Ghent, where DFDS Belgium also operates a multimodal terminal, operates 6 sailings per week to/from Gothenburg. Once per week Brevik in Norway is also called. In Zeebrugge DFDS operates 4 sailings per week to/from Gothenburg and 1 sailing per week to/from UK & Norway. The Customer Service & Operational Management for these activities are located in Ghent and we are now looking for a new Assistant Terminal Manager to strengthen our team.
Main responsibilities
The role of Assistant Terminal Management requires people management, ownership and a thorough understanding of terminal operations.
You will supervise, coordinate and manage our Port Operators as well as our Dock Workers to ensure an optimal collaboration, quality, safety and efficiency.. This entails the below responsibilities
Assist terminal management with :

• Loading and Unloading of Shortsea vessels (Mainly RORO)
• Warehousing activities
• Trailer Yard services
• Loading and unloading trains (automotive, container and general cargo)
• Surveying and Inspections
• Claim Handling

DFDS Belgium is looking for an Assistant Terminal Manager A challenging role in the core of our terminal operations in Gent, Belgium Where DFDS provides a variety of daily terminal & intermodal services

• Transshipments of steel products (coils, billets, plates)
• Support in administration and follow-up
• Making freight notes and transport documents
• The general operations of the terminal
• Contact towards technical subcontractors (Tugs, forklifts, stackers, minibuses, infrastructure,…)
• Training Port Operators and Dock Workers
• Coordination with Port Captain
• Receiving and delivering CBU’s (Complete Build Ups)
• Scheduling of intermodal services (barges, rail, shortsea, trucks,…)
• Planning of all above (equipment / HR)
Knowledge & skills
• High focus on people’s safety, well-being and satisfaction. Willing to take ownership and responsibility
• Good coaching skills, teamwork and flexible mindset
• Problem solving mindset/ability to manage conflicting priorities
• Language skills: fluent in Dutch and English is required.
• Analytic thinking ability
• Affinity with IT and fluent with office applications (Excel, Powerpoint, Word,…)
• Minimum Bachelor Logistics Management or several years of experience in shipping & logistics
• Basic Knowledge ISPS
