Statkraft AS

Temporary position in scripting of climate applications (1 year)

Energi- og vannforsyning

The business unit Energy Management is responsible for optimising the value of Statkraft’s hydropower assets. Energy Management has more than 80 employees contributing in an integrated business process including hydrology, production planning, power trading and market analysis.

This vacancy is within the department of Hydrology, a group of 19 highly skilled hydrologists and meteorologists. The Hydrology Department is Statkraft's supplier of data and forecasts in hydrology, meteorology and climate. Our department is also responsible for the development and maintenance of the models and systems that form the basis for these deliveries.

These are exciting times to be part of our unit! We plan to operationalize a paradigm shift in the simulation of uncertainty in weather data, moving from historical weather years to a synthetical based Weather Generator. We also focus on new methods for modelling climate risk. Here we expect a growing need for decision support within wind and solar energy. Within hydrology, we work specifically on the hydrological and meteorological components of SHyFT, an open-source hydrological toolbox, developed in Python and C ++. All our tools are integrated in standardized and flexible model frameworks.

We are now looking for a new colleague on a temporary basis, who are eager to contribute to our developments within weather and climate data.

You will:
  • Work with Statkraft’s core business
  • Contribute to the development of methods and tools for weather data, climate change and discharge analyses in the Nordics and abroad
  • Cooperate closely with colleagues situated in different areas of Statkraft (domestic and abroad)

Your profile:

  • Masters degree or higher in natural sciences, preferably in the fields of meteorology or climate science
  • High competence in scripting with particular focus on Python
  • Competence and experience in weather / climate modelling and data analysis
  • Good at building strong relations across disciplines and organisation
  • Analytical mind-set
  • Ability to plan ahead and work systematically and organized to deliver at a high standard and quality
  • Good command of the English and Norwegian language, both orally and written

 Statkraft offers:

  • Professional and personal development in a company experiencing growth
  • A positive working environment characterized by competence, responsibility and innovation
  • A diverse workplace with regards to gender, age and cultural background
  • Competitive terms of employment and excellent benefit schemes

Statkraft manages critical infrastructure and services in several countries. We conduct background checks on qualified applicants before hire.
