As Europe’s largest producer of renewable energy, with 3600 employees in 15 countries across the globe, Statkraft will be part of the global transition towards a low carbon economy. Our aim is to become a leading developer of onshore wind and solar projects, taking on a significantly larger number of projects than before.

We are now expanding in a number of European markets and seek a Solar Design Engineer to join this team.

As a Solar Design Engineer you will play a key role in design optimisation and plant performance analytics across an international portfolio of projects, with a focus on technical innovation and LCoE reduction.  Working within a growing, dynamic and international team of solar specialists, you will normally be based in our Oslo or Amsterdam office, although other locations in close proximity might be considered.  Periodic travel will be required between each office location and to project sites within Europe. You will report to the Head of Solar Technical, based in Oslo, and individual Project Managers.

  • Evaluating uncertainty levels of solar irradiation datasets and selecting site-specific data;
  • Yield uncertainty analysis
  • Producing concept level electrical single line diagrams;
  • Producing a preliminary Bill of Quantities for primary equipment;

 In a supporting capacity your responsibilities will also include:

  • Keeping up to date with PV plant technology and market developments
  • Providing technical support during procurement, construction, operation, sales and acquisition project stages.
  • Managing sub-consultants;
  • Contributing to continuous improvement and R&D.
Your profile
  • Degree level qualification in electrical, electro-mechanical, mechanical, industrial, energy engineering, physics or other relevant technical discipline;
  • At least 2 years’ work experience in the capacity of a solar design engineer or technician with design and technology responsibilities as per this role.  Procurement, construction and operation stage experience of solar PV plants will be an advantage.
  • Achieved or working towards achieving professional chartership or accreditation with a relevant professional, technical institution.
  • Expert user of Microsoft Excel, AutoCAD, PVSyst and at least one utility-scale, specialist PV design software package. Proficiency in GIS software will be an advantage.
  • Fluency in English – written and verbal – other languages will be an advantage.
  • Excellent communication skills – written and verbal
  • You take pride in your field of work and the impact your projects have in creating a sustainable future.  You have a strong interest in solar technology and are intrigued by and seek out opportunities for design innovation design techniques.  You have an eye for detail and appreciate the importance of design management and quality control, but also work efficiently and are comfortable working with a portfolio of projects.  You enjoy a collaborative approach to working and are comfortable working within a remote, international network of staff.  You enjoy the challenges and opportunities that come with a newly established, growing team.
