Senior Project Engineer

Job Summary:

DNO is a Norwegian oil and gas operator focused on the Middle East-North Africa region and the North Sea. Founded in 1971, DNO is Norway’s oldest oil company. With a leading position in terms of reserves and production in the Kurdistan region of Iraq.

DNO is seeking an experienced Senior Project Engineer to be based in Dubai but with frequent visits to the project site in Kurdistan.  The Senior Project Engineer will be joining an international and dynamic working environment characterized by experienced, skilled and motivated employees.

The Senior Project Engineer shall support the Project Manager and Engineering Manager to execute design engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning and handover of new and modified facilities. Supervise, and/or interface with various engaged consulting and contracting companies and provide coordination with DNO internal stakeholders. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate between the DNO engineering, external contractors and/or EPC contractor’s activities with respect to project execution ensuring the contractor:
    • Is familiar with DNO execution plans and overall job requirement.
    • Staffs the project with adequate numbers or qualified personnel and optimizes use of personnel.
    • Employs the appropriate design tools and adheres to all agreed specifications and standards.
    • Provides all contract documents, particularly those referred to in the scope of work; Controls the work, i.e. accurate and timely progress measurement, and reporting.
  • Represent the Project Manager at various Contractors office and site locations.
  • Assist in definition of project scope and objectives, involving all relevant stakeholders and ensuring technical feasibility.
  • Prepare CTR’s for engaging engineering contractor.
  • Liaise with DNO project services, to develop a detailed project plan to monitor and track progress.
  • Manage changes to the project scope, project schedule and project costs.
  • Report and escalate to senior management any major adverse changes in project activities.
  • Perform risk management to minimize project risks, including the requirements of long lead items.
  • Ensure Contractors / Manufacturers are on a schedule, any deviation to be reported and recovery plans immediately initiated.
  • Implementation of multi-disciplinary projects from design phase through to commissioning and handover.
  • Define and safely deliver cost effective project solutions to internationally recognized standards, some within challenging timescales.
  • Raise internal project technical and commercial approval documentation, review scope changes and issue change requests as required.
  • Participate in HAZID, HAZAN, HAZOP, SIL & QRA studies if needed.
  • Produce professional project status reports.
  • Monitor project progress and ensure necessary information flow between stakeholders to meet project milestones
  • Support effective handover and closure of project contracts.
  • Use and continually develop leadership skills.

Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • Degree qualified Engineer within one or more engineering discipline(s) of which piping / mechanical should be core.
  • >10 years of experience from medium/large capital expenditure (capex) projects, within the oil and gas industry.
  • Have a wide range of technical skills and experience but shall have detailed knowledge of managing projects for process equipment and piping systems, including export pipelines, and gathering systems.
  • Hands-on experience with construction and commissioning.
  • Experience developing technically acceptable, constructible, and operable cost-effective solutions to complex problems.
  • Familiar with the use of functional specifications and the following up of contractors.
  • Familiar with commonly used project management concepts and tools, used to contribute project control information.

The role reports to Engineering Project Manager. The role is based in Dubai with a work schedule of 5 days per week Sunday to Thursday 8AM to 5PM. The Contract will be unlimited.
