Senior Portfolio Manager, UK Wind, Solar & Grid Services

The business area European Wind and Solar (E) is responsible for development and ownership of wind and solar assets in Europe. The business area is also responsible for the project execution of large projects in Statkraft, the group procurement function and development of new business opportunities.

The Role:

To support the Head of Portfolio Management in the analysis, management and enhancement of Statkraft’s UK wind, solar and grid services portfolio, in particular optimising opportunities within the extensive UK development portfolio.

Competence requirements:

  • At least 3 years’ experience in a relevant analytical role, demonstrating:
    • expert numerical modelling skills using MS Excel;
    • previous experience of financial modelling, preferably performing project finance valuations;
    • exposure to, and involvement in, large scale commercial transactions (asset and/or share purchase processes);
    • knowledge of the GB electricity grid with respect to use of system charges, losses, ancillary services, CUSC and related regulatory processes (preferred);
    • ability to review and interpret large contracts, industry rules, regulations and guidance documents; and
    • great attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills in English.
  • Efficient time management.

  • An analytical thinker who is proactive, creative and solution-orientated with great attention to detail. 
  • Strong communication, relationship-building and management skills including organisational ability and a target-oriented approach; demonstrated ability to prioritise. 
  • Independent self-starter. Ability to manage a large workload, often providing support to colleagues while prioritising tasks and effectively juggling competing deadlines.
  •  Confident and personable, keen to work in a dynamic small-team environment.

Your contribution:

  • Understand and interrogate the key drivers underpinning the valuations of Statkraft’s UK portfolio and communicate these within Statkraft.
  • Maintain current project valuations and analyse changes in portfolio value as projects and the external environment evolves.
  • Undertake extensive numerical analysis to optimise project design and project development for both wind and solar power projects.
  • Support commercial processes for project purchase and divestment across the UK portfolio.
  • Develop an in-depth knowledge of costs and revenues that projects will be exposed to from operating in the GB electricity grid network, including monitoring upcoming proposed changes in legislation.
  • Support project progression from initial concept to final realisation, including assisting with internal governance procedures.
  • Assist with securing a Route to Market for projects, including determining bid levels for any future Contract for Difference (CfD) processes and participation in PPA tenders.
  • Liaise across internal departments ensuring that knowledge is appropriately shared.
  • Maintain industry knowledge on relevant wider issues and representations; actively contribute to Statkraft’s industry engagement including working groups and consultation responses.

  • Providing robust, consistent analysis of exceptional quality enabling high-value decisions to be taken with confidence and full knowledge of key assumptions and value drivers.
  • Supporting the development of a rapidly growing and evolving portfolio of projects across a range of technologies, each with varying characteristics under a rapidly changing external environment.
  • Utilising Statkraft’s matrix organisational structure to best effect using clear and frequent communication and strong interpersonal skills.

Internal environment and relationships:

The successful candidate will report directly to the Head of Portfolio Management, UK Wind and Solar, with frequent exposure to senior figures within Statkraft.

There will be daily interaction with the UK Development Team for Wind and Solar (ENUD) and the UK Grid Services Team (ENUG).
