PhD Research Fellow position in Immunogenomics

A three years PhD research fellowship (100%) is available on the project: Identifying pathogenic cell phenotypes in cerebrospinal fluid and blood to reveal the underlying biology of complex neuro-immunological diseases.

The position is associated with the research group “Genetics of Autoimmunity” under the project group “HLA and disease” and financed by South-Eastern Norway Regional Health Authority. Work place will be at Department of Medical Genetics (Ullevål), Section for research and development. 

The Department of Medical Genetics (DMG) at Oslo University Hospital is Norway’s largest medical genetics department with over 200 employees. The department is responsible for diagnostics of rare and inherited diseases, and runs a national research infrastructure for high-throughput DNA sequencing at the Norwegian Consortium for Sequencing and Personalized Medicine (www.norseq.org). The research section in the department has 7 research groups (www.ous-research.no/meg/) working in various fields of medical genetics, including genetics, epigenetics, bioinformatics and functional genetics of breast cancer, autoimmune diseases, neurological, cardiovascular and psychiatric disorders.

Kvalifikasjoner:

  • The applicant must hold a master’s degree in a relevant field such as molecular biology/ cell biology/ immunology/ bioinformatics or equivalent, and have a documented genuine interest in the type of project we offer
  • Approved admission to the PhD program at the University of Oslo within six months is required
  • Experience with wet lab will be an advantage
  • Experience and/or interest in bioinformatics will be emphasized
  • Any of the following computational skills would be useful: use of the linux operating system, scripting in bash, R, python
  • Experience from research projects will be evaluated positively

Grade requirements, the norm is as follows:

  • the average grade point for courses included in the Bachelor’s degree must be C or better in the Norwegian educational system
  • the average grade point for courses included in the Master’s degree must be B or better in the Norwegian educational system
  • the Master’s thesis must have the grade B or better in the Norwegian educational system

    • The candidate should be able to work independently and interactively in a team setting, be motivated and responsible, and also have large work capacity and enthusiasm for research
    • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
    • Excellent spoken and written English
    • Personal skills will be emphasized

    In the recruitment process, we will particularly emphasize the applicant’s potential as a PhD-student as presented in the application letter and based on relevant experiences. Personal skills and work experience of importance for implementation of the project will also be emphasized, as well as the motivation for working on this project. Relevant candidates will be called into interview once their application has been reviewed. The interview is intended to clarify personal suitability for the position, motivation and the applicant’s potential related to work tasks and to obtain a doctorate degree. Impressions from the interview will form the basis for appointment to the position in addition to the professional assessment.
