If you’re an experienced HV Engineer with a track record of managing projects related to grid connections between users (solar PV, battery storage, windfarms) and the grid and ensuring that projects are delivered efficiently and on time in Spain, then we want to hear from you!
In this role your expertise will be the focal point for technical, commercial, and regulatory issues surrounding grid compliance, and grid connection for transmission and distribution networks. You will be responsible for maintaining and developing existing client and utility relationships.
The role will require strong collaboration with the Heads of Engineering for other territories working on joint projects as part of “Expert Groups” focused on establishing engineering best practice across the business, helping us achieve our goal by realising the potential of renewable energy and making a positive impact on our planet. This role can be based in either Valencia or Madrid.

About you:
You will manage the grid connection process from REE application through to the design of cost-efficient high voltage and interconnection systems and project management from development throughout the execution phase until energization. As the HV Engineer you will focus 80% of the time on project development and 20% on supporting construction during the first years.
Your main responsibilities will be:
- Liaises with project development team to lead and coordinate HV interconnection requirements and for estimation of project CAPEX, OPEX and time scheduling.
- Developing and building relationships with external clients, DNO’s, TSO’s, HV Consultancies and HV contractors.
- Manage, lead and coordinate shared connection agreements.
- Perform grid studies and simulation for specific projects
- Responsible for the on-time approval and connection of Solar PV plants, from development through to construction stage, ensuring that project designs are in line with company standards, and subject to appropriate review/approval process.
- Manages and supervises third party engineers or external design services.
- Conducts site visits and performs project technical feasibility assessments.
- Provides engineering support and performs site inspections during the construction phase of projects.
- Carries out a technical analysis of the project during design and construction stage to identify any non-conformities and to propose suitable for project design and/or technical problem issues.
- Produces HV interconnection cost estimates during development stage, identifying risks, exclusions, contingencies, and assumptions.
What we are looking for:
- Degree in Industrial Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
- 5 years of experience in HV electrical design and construction in Spain.
- Experience and sound understanding of the grid connection process in Spain, from application, to national standards and REE requirements applicable to the HV systems, including but not limited to RAT, RLAT standards and REE Grid Code, NTS and relative annexes.
- Use of design software including AutoCAD.
- Previous experience in HV infrastructure during development stage in Spain.
- Experience with medium and high voltage grid connections, including transmission lines and substations.
- Sound knowledge of MV switchgear panels and MV systems.
- Experience with underground cable system design and routing.
- Knowledge of power system studies.
- Experience with protection and control schemes.
- Fluency in Spanish and English.
- Willingness to travel regularly across the country.
Desirable:
- Protection and control background
- Experience with software DIgSILENT, PLS-CADD or CYMCAP
- Chartered Engineer qualifications and capability to sign HV design documents / projects.
