Head of Production Laboratories

Job Summary:

The Head of Production Laboratories is responsible for the day-to-day management and operations of all DNO Production Laboratories in Tawke and Baeshiqa PSC, not limited to HSSE performance, Quality Assurance and Quality Control, manpower scheduling, training and development of staff and compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices such as ASTM and UOP methodologies.

Specific analytical requirements the Head of Production Laboratories is responsible for include; export crude property analysis to meet license specification requirements, emission source analysis in accordance with Carbon Disclosure Project protocols, and supporting drilling, intervention, and production/maintenance operations with analysis and troubleshooting as necessary.

The Head of Production Laboratories will also support procurement strategies for laboratory analytical equipment and consumables, and production operations with respect to production chemical programs, not limited to demulsifiers, corrosion inhibitors, scale inhibitors, H2S scavengers, and water treatment chemicals etc.

The Head of Production Laboratories is responsible to ensure all analysis methods conducted are complete to the highest and latest industry standards, and in accordance with industry best practices to ensure data quality, and record keeping are consistent with DNO standards and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

A. Overall Duty:

  • Overall accountability for operations and safety of all production laboratories.
  • Manage reporting, monitoring, resourcing of laboratory personnel
  • Responsible for the training and development of laboratory team members
  • Hire, train, supervise and evaluate technical and support staff; determine work schedules and work assignments; recommend staffing levels
  • Utilize proven employee management solutions to improve productivity and efficiency
  • Facilitate effective communication across internal departments by trending and reporting data
  • Ensure that all procedures and standards are followed correctly and consistent with approved testing techniques and instructions
  • Establish and improve procedures and processes by addressing issues and risks
  • Ensure all analytical equipment is calibrated, and verified in accordance with industry standards and best practices
  • Ensure systems are in place for record keeping of all samples, data, and analyses (hard and electronic)
  • Work closely with team members to provide effective solutions to support business and quality objectives
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements, Company budgets, and schedules
  • Ensure HSSE risks and incidents are reported in a timely manner in accordance with Company standards
  • Ensure that environmental standards and procedures are adhered to
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and apparatus in operable condition, controls lab consumables store and is responsible for maintaining stocks
  • Assists SCM with strategic procurement activities

B. Health, Safety and Environment

  • Performs is duties in accordance with the Company HSE rules
  • Ensure that the laboratory activities are conducted in compliance with the applicable HSSE procedures, and Company life saving rules
  • Fully responsible for all decisions affecting the Health, Safety and Security of direct report personnel on site. Has authority to stop operations, construction, or any other activity that may jeopardise the safety or security of the personnel and installations
  • Promotes accurate reporting and feedback, involves, and motivates all personnel on anomalies, near misses and incident reporting

Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • Ideally tertiary / degree qualified with at least 20-25 years “hands on” and managerial experience in oil and gas industry production / fluid property testing laboratories
  • Strong working knowledge of export production specifications and associated industry recognised testing / analysis procedures in accordance with ASTM or similar
  • Excellent computer skills with the ability to use, optimise and develop laboratory testing standards, processes, procedures, quality assurance and control methodologies, data management and reporting protocols
  • Track record of working in multi-cultural environments, with extensive experience mentoring/coaching and developing national workforces to industry best practices and standards
  • Track record of developing standards, procedures and processes in accordance with ISO 9001 or other industry recognised management system standard
  • Track record of implementation of best-in-class analytical laboratory practices, data recording and reporting

The role reports to Head of Production Methods and is based in Kurdistan site. The work schedule is rotational 6 weeks on / 3 weeks off and on an unlimited duration.
