Haulage Procurement Manager - UK

The Role… As the UK Haulage Procurement Manager, you will take responsibility for the recruitment of new hauliers to support our activities in the UK and Ireland where we currently operate over 400 sub-contracted trucks. 

Within this senior role, you will be responsible for negotiating terms and conditions with the sub-contractors, maintaining high standards of quality and in close co-operation with the operations and customer service teams will drive improvements to maximise utilisation, minimise downtime and constantly focus on improving efficiency and service. You will drive results with a team of colleagues based in GB, Northern Ireland and Ireland. The team is close-knit and characterised by a high professional standard and the ability to drive fresh initiatives in a busy and challenging environment. You can expect some business travel mainly in UK and Ireland but also Europe.

Key Responsibilities…

  • Ensure that our sub-contracted fleet can live up to the demands of our customers, both from a service and cost perspective
  • Recruit new subcontractors at rates agreed with Operational management.
  • Manage resources to meet peaks and troughs in the business.
  • Measure cost and utilization of the subcontract fleet via KPI’s
  • Seek new methods of operation to improve efficiency.
  • Negotiate with hauliers based in UK and Europe.
  • Develop a pipeline of new hauliers to ensure we can react to changes in volume very quickly.
  • Follow up and conclude on quality issues relating to sub-contractors.
  • You would be expected to be in the Immingham office 2-3 days per week.

Key Skills…

  • Experience of recruiting sub-contractors or have worked as a procurement or purchasing manager. 
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with all types of internal and external suppliers and our customers.
  • Possess good problem solving and decision-making skills whilst being able to work under pressure.
