Director of Software Engineering Role and responsibilities

The Software Engineering unit has 400+ highly competent employees. The vast majority has an engineering background spread on roles like software development, security, testing, UI/UX, architecture, but also a large component of various domain experts. The organization is diverse and international with hubs in 7 countries on 3 different continents and the SW portfolio consists of 19 different products.

You will be a key member of the executive management team in Digital Solutions and reporting to the Business Area CEO. Key stakeholders include Product Line Directors and Product Managers, Solutions Operations and Delivery teams, and Staff directors.

Digital Services in DNV has embarked on an ambitious transformation set out to build next generation products through an integrated operations model. To deliver on our growth ambitions the coming years the new set-up will enable them to utilize the full force of the company across business areas and geographies.

Areas of responsibility:

• Provide leadership with focus on enhancing global alignment through teamwork, common competencies, processes and technology. This to be done by managing resource issues and interact with key stakeholders to assure that agile work processes (sprint iteration and product release) are successfully executed and delivered.

• Provide leadership, management as well as technical vision for the entire software engineering organization. Work with Executive Leadership Team to help inform direction, M&A activities and partner decisions. Supervise technology trends like emerging standards for innovative technology opportunities.

 

Customer value

• Through close cooperation with Marcom, PLD and Regions reach financial and market targets.
• Enable the SW Engineering organization to participate early phase in dialogue with the market to investigate opportunities and create realistic market expectations.
• Contribute with technology opportunities and limitations into business cases.

 

Organization and Processes:

• Build a strong organization with management team that is committed to hire, develop and retain the skilled people needed to manage the product vision and strategy developed by the Product Line Director teams. Diversity and Inclusion shall be part of building up the teams.

• Provide suitable decision making for product development and software engineering maintaining sensitivity to constraints and business needs.

 

Technology

• Establish overall architecture, security and design for all product lines
• Ensure quality and security certifications of software products
• Manage and oversee joint development with 3rd party vendors along with outsourced development
• Facilitate software development team accomplish optimal team performance
• Drive new directions for the software development process
• Prepare technical tasks as well as time estimates for bids and proposals

 

Execution:

• Develop and implement all software engineering plans, overall for common elements, but also for each product line
• Direct and manage software engineering resource allocation, schedules and budget
• Report on prevailing project schedule as well as progress on weekly basis
• Develop and review all technical sales material

 

The successful candidate should meet most of the following criteria:

Competence requirements

• Proven track-record and exceptional results from similar roles in large international companies, leading and developing diverse teams
• Strong understanding of integration of different technology
• Experience from industrial (B2B) large-scale technology companies, preferably from an ISV
• Substantial experience and competence in moving from on premise to cloud
• Solid understanding of how large corporations work across Business Areas in a matrix organization. Lack of experience can be compensated by personality and behavior
• High potential candidates aspiring for the next step will be viewed as interesting
• MSc Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent
